In Arizona, a "private" fire company offers homeowners the option to purchase their service or not. If they say "no" they are still obligated to pay for their service even if the service is not requested. What a messed up dynamic. If the service is required, then homeowners shouldn't be led to believe that they have an option to purchase the service or not. Either way, probably best to check your policies and your local laws to see if you are potentially on the hook for something like this.
