Percy could both catch the ball and run....and usually did BOTH!

    How about Valdez Showers?

    Yes....no...maybe?

    Who else?

I wouldn't hold your breath for that one, my friend :)
If we had a Percy, the level of optimism for this team would be MUCH higher.

I think we have some guys, but no one on this team has his level of skill.

I think Valdez is a nice player, but ....

Percy Harvin's don't grow on trees unfortunately. Would be kind of cool if they did. I'd also make sure we'd have a Reggie Nelson tree, Tim Tebow tree, and a Kevin Carter tree.

An Emmitt Smith Tree. Though I do feel better about our running backs going into this year as opposed to last.

Duh - of course we'll never have an exact duplicate....that's not what I meant.

I meant someone who would be the same type of player for us.

Back in 2010 everyone was predicting (and hoping) Andre Debose would be that player. Well he set a record for kickoff TD's (4) so far - not too bad - but (and some say it's because of our OC) never really reached our expectations.

How about this year.....who are our best candidates, if any?

Big part of the equation is the offensive strategy - with Coach Roper - we now have the guy who can get this done!

Well, uh, that's what people are telling you. That "type" of player doesn't grow on trees. There are maybe 1 or 2 every 5 years, strewn across the country. There might not even be a Percy Harvin player in college football right now.

I guess I just don't think we have anyone who can do what he did, take the hand off or be a threat in the passing game.

    Maybe Matt Jones???

It sounds like we may plan to use him in a role where he does more of both run and catch. But Matt is certainly no Percy.

I think Matt Jones may have the most even split of catches and rushes. Is that what you're asking?

    Yes, thanks Y.P.E. and U.F.

Would love to see 'someone' groomed to both run and catch for yardage. If it's Matt Jones so be it. He has skills that's for sure.

No one this side of carlos alvarez will come even minutely close to Percy. When you have a college football player make reggie bush look ordinary, he's a once in several generations good. If we're lucky, we will see another college football player like Percy before we're all pushing daisies.

Showers is the most similar, unless Debose actually plays offense. I don't expect much from either. Matt Jones is the furthest thing from Percy. I have no idea where that answer came from.

That answer came from how the OP was phrased. Someone who can both be a threat as a receiver and a running back. Because the coaching staff plans to use him in the "B" position which is essentially in an H Back role. So he will be running and catching passes.

We don't have a Percy-like player. I am not saying Matt Jones is that guy by ANY stretch. But he is the only one, or it least it sounds like it, who will get a lot of touches running and receiving.

Along the linbes of a Percy Harvin style player?

Ok, to play along with the question, I'll say one that I don't think many here might pick, and that would be WR Chris Thompson. I think you'll see him implemented in the jet sweep game at least. Of course, I'm sort of going out on a limb with this one, but I think the kid is a baller.

Don't know much about the young WRs, but Solo was that type of player for us last year.

Well he caught 4 passes last year on screens or swings... I have a hard time seeing Matt Jones line up in the slot and run routes and catch passes, no matter what the coach says. Showers has already proven he can do both last year.

The thread author meant a player USED like a Percy Harvin in our offense, not a player who is actually on Harvin's talent level.
