Not only do we now have a NC that wasn't a Conference champion, they weren' even in the SECCG! This needs to be corrected. If you don' win your conference...no Title game. Play in a Conference with a championship game, no Title game. Does anyone actually think anyone OTHER THAN Bama would have been on the Final 4 in this scenario?

It's a playoff and a playoff should have best 4 teams, not the best 4 conference champions. Ask yourself, was Bama one of the best 4 teams? Obviously they were...end of discussion.

Pretty sure Bama showed they deserved to be there...to be the best you have to beat the best...and they did.

Non-divisional champs win the super bowl all the time. (Didn't check but assuming)

NFL is way different in that the disparity in schedule strength is much much smaller. Also,We give UCF grief because of their schedule but has anyone really looked at BAMAs in hindsight? Its not that impressive. Their opponent's win loss record is pretty damn bad

This is a really bad rubric for NC game inclusion. We routinely have 1+ loss teams these days, which usually means you lose to a lesser opponent than who you faced in the conference title game.

Like it or not, as the playoff expands, the value of the conference championship will diminish.

Ah don't forget to add Clemson and Georgia. I certainly did not want to see Bama win another but I definitely did not want Georgia.

Yeah but we are talking about getting there. People argue its easy for UCF to have a month to get up for auburn and beat a better team. Its been stated before. Bama got a bye week and didn't have to risk injury while backing into the playoffs. Up to that point their body of work was not that impressive and they lost their "win or go home" game

This isn't the first time Bama has won the NC and didn't even play in the SECCG. Happened before in 2011.

Where you see this as a flaw in the CFP; I see this as a flaw in the SECCG. However, I do not think the solution is in fixing the SECCG; I think ultimately, it needs to go away. As the playoffs expand, the virtue of winning your conference gets diminished. Alabama's season (National Championship) exceeds Georgia's (SEC Championship)...that is a flaw in the selection process of the SEC Champion. Or put more simply; what if Auburn was in the East and Missouri was in the West? Georgia would not have even made the SEC Championship Game.

This argument worked better last year when OSU got in as the best one-loss team and then got pasted by a better Clemson team.

It's a bit harder when Bama gets in using the exact same metric they used last year to justify putting OSU in (so the committee is being consistent instead of arbitrary favoring one team/league) AND Bama wins the whole thing. That tends to justify that the committee's selection.

Okay obvious point but I'd take the UCF schedule any day if I had to choose. Shoot many teams could have gone undefeated with that schedule. Sure USF was a good win, a very close one at that. Memphis, they had to go to overtime. If I'm a team as bad as Florida in 2017 I'd be thrilled to swap with UCF if someone told me this would get you into the final four, as from your topic. And be glad to take my chances against an Auburn team in a New year's bowl that doesn't matter. Point here, good for UCF but their schedule doesn't deserve the argument.

My point exactly....and it's never going to change if there' a chance Bama may be left out in the cold! Too much at stake not having them in the picture

Probably a stronger argument against Alabama getting in is to imagine if Wisconsin had beat Ohio State. That changes everything and possibly Clemson beats UW and then beats UGA. Who knows but it still is without UCF, fine by me.
