    • The Obama administration could soon be housing hundreds of illegal immigrant children at a multimillion-dollar hotel complex in Texas, just a few miles from the Mexican border – and it could cost taxpayers nearly $50 million, sources with knowledge of the deal tell me.

“It’s an extraordinarily expensive operation,” said an official with knowledge of the plans. “We’re talking tens of millions of dollars. It’s a lot of money.

It is a 2 1/2 star old style outdoor entry motel that they are going to retrofit with a medical facility and an immigration court. It is just short of 200 rooms, meaning they would be stacked on average 3 people per room in a 2 1/2 star hotel for a couple of weeks while they are processed. In return for doing this, they will get to save money on shipping kids to immigration courts and medical facilities all over the place. Seems like a good way to both save some money and treat the children humanely. That is if you can get past the emotional reaction.

The problem being that this story and its presentation is intended precisely to provoke such an emotional reaction.

:D But it's a "multimillion-dollar hotel" and that means it's super luxurious. I know when I travel I certainly can't afford a highfalutin multimillion-dollar hotel. This is basically the Ritz-Carlton of Weslaco, TX.

Just look at this elegantly appointed room
    [IMG]

    And this incredibly lavish buffet
    [IMG]

This sumptuous soaking tub and exquisite Spanish tile floor
    [IMG]

    The craftsmanship is stunning
    [IMG]

    And it's got air condition?!?

Todd Starnes is the guy who started all that phony stuff about the military banning religion, as well as a bunch of other phony culture war stories.

Motel 6's cost more than 2 million to build. Does that make them a "multi-million dollar" hotel? Sensationalism at its finest!!!

if the gubmnt sent you a bill for your total share of the short and long term costs of this illegal migration tomorrow would anybody here be fine with stroking the check for their share or all we all content just adding this to the debt?

who is willing to give up what to fund the costs of our inability to control the border?

You know, at least this is a bit reasonable logistically (proximity to the border, etc). Someone please tell me how it makes sense logistically, financially, etc, to bring them up here to the Buffalo area or other areas in the North? Especially to a spa resort (which is certainly not $70 a night).

Agree that the title/original article is looking for an emotional response, though. Like this isn't bad enough already without making stuff up.

On one hand, better than the Feeb is willing to dump people into as part of this human trafficking operation. On the other, should be moot as every single one of them should be being taken by C-130 back to country of origin.

Agreed that they should be sent back - but again, at least this particular move has a semblance of logistical sense.

Here's a good question asked on another blog:

I wonder which resort Mexico would send me to if they caught me sneaking into their country?

well some body raised enough hell as the feds are backing down

    "
A plan to house hundreds of illegal immigrant children at a multimillion-dollar hotel complex in Texas was scuttled after the prospect of taxpayers footing the bill for luxury lodging proved too much of a public relations obstacle.

BCFS, previously known as Baptist Child and Family Services, which has a contract with the Department of Health and Human Services to run camps at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio and Fort Sill in Oklahoma, had a deal to buy the Palm Aire Hotel in Weslaco, Texas, for $3.8 million. The hotel was built in the 1980s and includes three swimming pools, tennis courts and an exercise room.
