For all of us wanting a change at the top, this is possibly the worst season to do that. Can you imagine an offseason with USC, Texas, and UF all trying to fill coaching vacancies? Wow. Not to mention, the other two programs have had a substantial head start in their respective searches. Making the decision early when we canned Zook gave us ample time to conduct a proper search, and get to know the candidate (CUM). Having this relationship to fall back on helped us nudge out the Irish in the end when they came calling too late. USC has copied that blueprint for this year. I fear we will be third in the pecking order if we do go HBC hunting.

Here would be my pushback on your post:

    1. Mack Brown bought himself another year at Texas IMO in beating Oklahoma.
    2. While USC has a head start, I think we have more to offer from the past recruiting classes for a new coach to build around. An incoming coach would have a similar cupboard to what Urban Meyer had coming in after Zook.
    3. We are in the SEC. Top coaches from other top programs joined mid-tier SEC schools last year for a chance to coach in our conference. Especially with things moving towards a playoff format, winning the whole thing may be easier at an SEC school.

We beat nd the last time, we can beat anyone in a coaching search if it happens.

I thought about this a few weeks ago, too. I came to the conclusion that UF is a top tier program and we can offer our coach more than just about any other school. What could become problematic is waiting to pull the trigger for too long. I fear that the longer we wait, the longer it will take to recover

Don't wait to make a change. There are tons of great candidates out there. If the candidate we want wants to come here might as well make the change now.

Barring a complete and total collapse, I don't think Muschamp is going to get fired this year.

We don't need a new HC....we need an offensive coordinator who can build a great O-line and call plays that my dog can't figure out!

I'm afraid it extends to the HC. Will has said several times he believes in a defensive approach. He does not believe in offense and that is what this team desperately needs

Well...usually it's the head coach who hires the coordinators and Muschamp has already messed up twice.

Agree. If Muschamp wants to put his HC career with Pease and Davis next year...enjoy half a season next year because we'll be talking about the new coaching prospects by the middle of October.

Yeah let's wait..... There's a strategy...so because USC and Texas may have openings we should bow to them and wait. Del Rio to USC... We don't want him. Chances are Texas will take someone we may not have on our list. Either way lets let others dictate our future.... Dumb. As Foley said, what will be done eventually, should be done immediately. Game, set, match....

A loss to a top 15 team on the road?

Say what you want, and I'm not pumping sunshine, but Foley is not firing Muschamp based on today's performance. It's just not going to happen.

I just don't think Foley will chit can Muschamp this year. He will get a pass because of last year and all the injuries this year. There will probably be a scapegoat or two pushed out this year though........see Davis & Pease.

Another point I failed to raise in my initial post was (although its looking bleaker) the possibility that Chip Kelly gets overwhelmed in the NFL and leaves back to college. How sweet would that be to get him next year as he is looking to come back? That definitely won't be happening this year, and unfortunately, he may have just found the QB to run his system in Foles.

Actually, I love a HC who thinks defense first! Build a great defense and you can compete for titles. Build a great defense with a good offense at the same time...and you have Alabama!

Build a great defense, with no offense at the same time... and you have 5-7!

DEFENSE IS OBSOLETE. Both in the NCAA and the NFL. You must light up the scoreboard to be dominant nowadays.

A team with a punchless, popgun, rinky-dink offense will be under .500 80% of the time. The poorest teams are always the anemic offensive teams.
