I thought this article was interesting, although the site might be a little slanted toward Iran's position. So I find the article somewhat suspect. The site brings another perspective but take it for what it's worth.

I just hope that Saudi Arabia, Russia and Iran will stop pumping weapons into Syria.
Right now the opposition won't come to the Geneva peace talks in February. I read that they don't like our conditions.

It seems plausible that the current bombings are about someone wanting to be recognized as a player. Muslim? Interesting take.

I just find it hard to believe, given Prince Bandar bin Sultan diplomatic experience, that the Bandar would make such a veiled threat to Russian President Vladimir Putin. This sounds like misinformation to me. I just find it implausible that the Consortium could be fed privy conversations of Bandar and Putin that is credible.

One thing, Putin isn't a namby pamby academician. If he thought someone would deliberately try to embarrass Russia during the Olympics, I think that group would "hear from him shortly" and not in a good way.

I agree that these terrorists that did the bombing in Sochi might want to influence things in Syria given the fact that they have taken part of the Afghan War. I believe many of them are fighting in Syria, too.

He's a shrewd guy (and also a PhD, for the record), but he doesn't actually seem to act emotionally in international affairs (though very much so in domestic affairs). Like any leader, he's angling for the best outcome for his country.

I agree, very hard to believe that the Saudi Prince would make such a threat and openly acknowledge their support of the terrorist groups.

They might have talked but yeah, it seems rather implausible that any such discussion was conveyed in the way the article makes it seem.

I wouldn't put it past Putin to either leak the story or plant a fabricated story to turn world opinion in favor of a Russian response against the Chechan terrorists. Not saying it happened, just a possibility.
