Great stuff as always, eViLG. But take is easy on the ears thingy... that's not his fault.
You may claim that their leading the charge to strip us of our rightful championship is "water under the bridge." Not for me. I still hold a grudge. That was my first year at Florida, and really, my first true introduction to college football. And we won the SEC. Until those bastards caused us to be stripped of our well-deserved and long-overdue championship. They deserve their mediocrity.
Agreed. I was a freshmen in 1985 and taunted the Vol faithful after the win at home. A 14-10 donnybrook, if I recall.

Karma is a bitch.
Sad news for them is, as long as Mark Richt, Les Miles and Steve Spurrier stick around don't expect Tennessee to be back anytime soon.
UGA, LSU and South Carolina all sucked in the 90s, and Fulmer took advantage.
That not the case now.
Well, to be fair, so did we. But I still hate Tennessee, and OUR former head coach, Bob Woodruff, for leading the charge to strip us of our first SEC title. Woodruff apparently hated Florida after getting canned and replaced by Ray Graves, who started our first run of real success in the modern era.
In the '90's we were great.
We sucked so bad in the 90s that we only won 6 out of 10 SEC Championships and 1 National Championship. Oh to suck like that again.
So was Tennessee for most of the 1990s. We both had the same divisional schedule!
Then again, how does one define greatness? How many MNCs did we win in the 1990s? And for that matter, how many times from 1990-1999 were we the best team in the SEC (as opposed to SEC champ)?
1990: We had the best record, but that beatdown by Tennessee wasn't pretty.
1991: No question, in spite of Alabama's better overall record.
1993: Second to Auburn (better record and head to head win)
1994: Second to Auburn (better record and head to head win)
1996: We won it all that year
1997: Tennessee won the SEC and Georgia had an identical record plus beat us head to head
So, of that decade, we were clearly the best team in 1991, 1995, and 1996, and probably 1990. Four times in 12 years. Outstanding, but we had some breaks as well. I watched all the games.
It was a tremendous run, for which I am proud, but I am also realistic. I am sure we would have done even better had the Noles not picked that time to have THEIR run as well. We had a great run from 1983-5, and another great run from 2005-9. But we are GREAT when we hoist crystal...
Drama queen, no one said we sucked.
Good post! I remember all the crap that Vol fans pulled in 1990 and I instantly began to hate Tennessee! Let's keep pounding the Vols for the next few decades just to make sure they understand we have very long memories!
Not sure why you slight our 1990 and 1994 teams. One team won the SEC title game and the other got screwed over alleged child support payments.
I also think you lack perspective of what was considered "great" for UF's football program back then.
I was a student from 1986-90, and if you told me back then we'd win four consecutive SEC titles, I'd question your sanity.
Well, if you are going to acknowledge 1990 as the best team in the SEC (as I do the 1984 and 1985 teams), we also have to acknowledge Auburn in 1993 and 1994...right?
You happened to be there at a period where we were crushed by sanctions. Had you been there from 1982-1985, you would have thought that we would dominate the SEC for years to come. I graduated from Florida in 1982 and lived in the area until joining the Army in 1987. I've witnessed outstanding teams at Florida before SOS arrived.
I'm just looking at the 1990 and 1994 teams honestly. Yes, we were 9-2 in 1990, but our schedule was the weakest of the SOS era. We had an outstanding team in 1994, but was it the best? Auburn would say otherwise, as both their record and head to head performance attest.
Again, "suck" is not the next step down from "great."
You're just a queen without the drama.
OK, we're now reduced to middle school humor. No mas...
I was starting to feel badly for UT, but after reading that article.... well as the parrot said "you know what!"
I missed where someone suggested UF sucked.
I grew up in Jacksonville, so I've followed UF dating back to the Don Gaffney and Terry LeCount days. I remember the 80s very well. Jeff Driskel is no Larry Ochab.
I think you're applying BCS logic to an era where UF fans considered winning the SEC to be right up there with winning a national title. We didn't care who the Gators lost to, or what our strength of schedule was.
We didn't question UF as being worthy of the SEC title because Auburn was ineligible. Likewise, Tennessee isn't giving back the '85 or '90 SEC title because UF was on probation.
