I might hate tOSU, but you have to give it up for their band. The "Smooth Criminal" lean (about 4 minutes in) was my favorite part.

And the dotting of the I in Script Ohio is an awesome tradition.

Ohio State has a great band, but I'll also take this opportunity to say what a great job our own band is doing this year.

For those that don't know, this year's Pride of the Sunshine is supposedly the biggest it's ever been and they have been noticeably better since Game 1. They're much louder in my opinion, which makes for an even better pre game, and they've done some fun halftime routines. I think they're getting to that point where they could go toe to toe with some of the better bands in the country.

If there are any Gator band members reading this thread, please know us fans have noticed the improvements and appreciate the effort. You guys are doing an outstanding job this year despite some disheartening outcomes on the field with our team. Keep up the great work.

I haven't been able to make it to any games this year, so I didn't know the Pride of the Sunshine has been improving. That's good. Hopefully, the crowd can hear them playing over the piped-in music.

If they play FAMU, will Meyer have to be whisked to the ER at halftime?

What do you mean by good?

In marching band terms, there was nothing impressive there, other than the drill design. The actual delivery of the drill was above average, but not great. The performance of the music was, again, above average, but fell short of great. Having the choir come out was a nice idea, but poorly implemented.

I agree. The band is much much better than they have been in the past. I don't know who or when the director came here, but they have been greatly improving over the last few years.

The current band director has been around since about 2006. He's a UT Austin guy and does a great job. The assistant director is a Gator and also does a fantastic job. I'm glad to hear that they continue to improve, having left UF last year.

For Tolbert - I agree that the OSU band show was good. The moonwalk drill was very cool. OSU has had a long tradition, as do several of the big ten schools, of having an elite marching band. I don't think, however, that it's fair for you to compare them to the Pride of the Sunshine, when you haven't been to a game this year. Not saying UF's band is better; just that it is not a necessary assessment.

Big 10 bands and those in Tallahassee, Tuscaloosa, Auburn, and Louisiana are generally better because they take their music program seriously and actually have scholarship players in the band. Our band has, or at least used to have, flute players playing brass etc and etc because we were desperate to have bodies in the marching band, and nobody had scholarships.

As for Ahia State's band, they will forever be remembered for playing their team's anthem against the Gators: theme of the sinking titanic in the NC game halftime show.

When posters put up band threads in the middle of football season in a football forum, you know your football team has a big problem. Is there a college sports misery index that has come out?

tOSU has 'skull session' in the arena before games. It would be cool if UF tried that in the Odome. The band sits in chairs on the floor and plays the halftime show and more for the fans who attend.
