He’ll likely never play much at UGA and transfer in a year or two when he realizes he made a decision with his heart rather than his head.

Disagree. My guess: he'll redshirt next year to create two-years separation between him and Fromm. Then, he'll become the starter as a RS-junior and play for two years. When he's a RS-frosh, they'll bring in the next guy and continue the cycle. And if something happens to Fromm - or if he leaves early - Fields will be there.

FSU did this successfully for years.

That would mean he waits 3yrs to be the starter. I would bet nearly anything that's not what Kirby told him. He could've likely been the starter at UF year 1.

Eason is bound to transfer forcing Fields to not redshirt.

Fields isn’t on a 5 year plan. This isn’t the 90s, these kids are looking at 3 years and get paid. And I doubt he redshirts. Eason will likely transfer and Fields will be the backup.

Possibly. But being a backup won't do anything either to get him paid after three years, no matter what Eason does. His best shot to get paid, if he's going to stay at UGa, is to wait his turn. Or, try to straight up outplay Fromm right away and replace him.

Wouldn't fields get a shot as a redshirt soph? Or does fromm stay 4 in this scenario?

If he's the "next Tom Brady," he's not getting drafted until the 6th round anyway, so he really shouldn't worry about it too much.

He should start as a rs sophomore. Fromm probably leaves after two more years

Fromm is not an NFL talent, not yet at least. He gets a ton of easy throws due to their running game. If fields is as advertised, why can't he pass fromm next year? I don't see fromm as a better talent than Eason right now, and he won't be able to lean on the running game forever. He made some throws against OU, but that D is terrible. He threw it 7 times against UF, and looked below average in both Auburn games.

Hate to say this, but if I was his financial adviser (and he was good enough to be drafted in 1st round), I would strongly recommend the BB route. It's really a no brainer if you are good enough.

Why not? UGA is RBU and now we have a coach that realizes we need and is getting a Bama-like Oline of road graders and got a coach (Pittman) that knows how to coach 'em up!

I'll list the players on the roster next year (including TEs as UGA uses them as blockers more than receivers) and the recruits already signed (by 247 * ranking, national position ranking, ht, wt)

UGA returns this year's starting line minus LT Isiah Wynn. Returners for next year are:

True freshman starter RT Andrew Thomas (4*, #9, 6'5", 335) likely slides over to LT.
    RG Ben Cleveland (5*, #9, 6'6", 340)
    C Lamont Gaillard (4*, #10, 6'2", 295)
    LG Kendall Baker (3*, #37, 6'6", 287) - may lose job
    TE Issac Nauta (5*, #1, 6'4", 246)
    TE Charlie Woerner (4*, #25, 6'5", 245)
    TE Jackson Harris (4*, #5, 6'6", 247)

    Others on roster next year:
OG Solomon Kindley - started 7 games before he hurt his ankle and Cleveland beat him out - (3*, #87, 6'4", 340)
OT Isaiah Wilson (5*, #16, 6'7", 345) - redshirt that will battle incoming Cade Mays for RT or Thomas for LT
    OG Netori Johnson (4*, #115, 6'4", 325)
3-4 other 3/4* returning but may have a hard time keeping the incoming recruits off the field

    Incoming Oline recruits:
OG Jamaree Salyer (5*, #1, 6'4", 342) - watching him manhandle guys during the Army All-American game as I write
    OT Cade Mays (5*, #2, 6'6", 318)
    OG Trey Hill (4*, #2, 6'3.5", 346)
    TE Luke Ford (4*, #2, 6'6", 248)
OT Owen Condon (3*, #37, 6'7", 300) - will most assuredly RS and bulk up

Returning RBs (in order they'll start at in Spring):
    D'Andre Swift (4*, #4, 5'9", 215) - 7.8 ypc on 77 carries this year, 15 receptions for 146 yds (9.7 ypcatch)
    Elijah Holyfield (4*, #6, 5'11", 215) - 5.86 ypc on 50 carries this year
    Brian Herrien (3*, #19, 6'0", 210) - 4.34 ypc on 61 carries this year

    Incoming RB recruits:
Zamir White (5*, #1, 6'1", 220) - ACL senior year but expected to play 3-4 games into 2018 season
    James Cook (Dalvin's little brother) (4*, #3, 5'11.5", 181) - just scored 2 TDs during the Army All-American game

and QB Justin Fields (5*, #1 DT QB, 6'3, 221)...

I think UGA will run the ball better during Fields tenure...and beyond as long as Smart remains HC.

As far as Fromm, lots of rivals want to doubt the kid. You say he "looked below average in both Auburn games." First game, yep, I agree - due to a bad game plan and lack of adjustments by OC Jim Chaney. SECCG? Fromm was 16/22 with 2 TDs and 0 INTs. Gaudy numbers? No, but I wouldn't call a 72% completion rate in a huge game against the #19 pass defense/#14 total defense in the nation "below average." Kid has a 63.7% completion rate and ranks fourth nationally in passing efficiency (166.4). Named SEC Freshman of the Year, ESPN and USA Today Freshman All-American Team. 23 TDs vs 5 INTs. Tim Tebow was 21 TDs/5 INTs for a 164.2 QBR his senior year.

    CFLP game stats:
    Fromm - 68.9%, 2 TDs, 0 INTs
Heisman Winner Baker Mayfield - 66.6%, 3 TDs, 1 INT

He didn't need to throw more than 7 times against UF when the team is rushing for 300 yds. Don't see how you count that against him?

I think the kid is pretty good. It will be a great competition this Spring as Fields is now an early enrollee.

Not boasting, just information as I just don't get the "UGA won't be able to run" comment and comment about Fromm.

Fromm Is UGA's QB. Fields will only play if there is an injury. Mark that down. Let me clarify… Fields will play mop up time but will not start unless there is an injury. Jake is a very very rare once in 20 year type of kid
