So anyone that knows anything about Texas A&M knows how important traditions are and how deeply scarring the bonfire tragedy was. They built a memorial to the fallen from that night, and in a camp for incoming freshman some of the counselors this year took inappropriate photos, mugging it up at the memorial (the very people that are supposed to be teaching the traditions). Of course, millennials being millennials they had to run and post their new pics on Facebook. Texags, the biggest A&M site got hold of them, the thread now has 900+ responses, the head of the camp has already apologized, one of the girls in the pics has deleted her Facebook, local press has picked it up and the president of the university has tweeted about it.

While some of the reaction might be overkill, the mentality of young folks these days is something I just don't understand. We all did dumb things, but they seem obsessed with making sure the world knows what they are doing at all moments, with absolutely no thought about the ramifications. I just can't imagine if the family whose kid's name is visible in that first photograph saw that (way deep in the thread there are some more pictures).

There is no fundamental difference between kids today, kids 20 years ago and kids in 1850 besides the set of tools made available to them.

Is there some reason everyone is wearing white in the photos?

Because that school is creepy, it's like a damn cult. Most overtraditioned place ever.

The reaction is definitely overkill. Did you look at the pics? Smiling kids next to a memorial? The local media needs to get overthemselves playing social police.
