textbook tackle! He attempted to get his head up and he wrapped up. That announcer was raving over nothing. Gorman attempted to tackle the receiver correctly!!

If Gorman truly had targeted that kid then that kid would be rollin' in a wheel chair this morning. Gorman did a heckuva job by reducing that tackle to a clean tackle.

I couldn't believe the announcer kept going on and on about it. He had his head up and DIDN'T lead with the crown of the helmet. Yet Stenchcomb wouldn't let it go, it was a good no-call and an even better tackle.

It is hard to say, but I think his helmet glanced off the facemask of the receiver. Perhaps that is all you need for targeting. His helmet also clearly glanced off of the ball as well, so it seems to me that he was likely "targeting" the ball.

    Wrap-up was the key to a no-call

I don't know how stinchcomb declared that Gorman led w/ the crown of the helmet - he must have a different definition for what the crown is. looked like a great play to me even under the new rules.

This rule is going to be talked about all year! It's a tough call for the refs. And as we saw with Alabama, even when they mistakenly call the penalty it still stands, you just don't lose your player. I don't like the rule at all. I understand what they are trying to accomplish, but this isn't going to work.

From what I saw, he led with his facemask and wrapped up. This makes it legal, and is probably the hardest and most effective hit you will see with the new rule changes.

Sounded like stenchcomb wanted to take him to court and prove it was targeting.

That's what I saw, and its going to make this rule really tough for refs to call. It seemed like a textbook hit, he was targeting the chest of the receiver which is where the ball was too. That is what you're supposed to do.

But if you hit the guys chest with your facemask, the top of your helmet is now right next to their facemask, and some incidental contact is bound to happen. That should be okay, but that's really really tough to call at game speed. Credit to the refs for not ejecting Gorman on a close, violent hit like that.

he tackled him the way you are supposed to tackle. head up (not leading with crown) and wrapped arms around him and took him to the ground. he just did it really hard.
