    as a follow up question --

    regardless of the current status of the team, i think as an AD you always have to have a short list of who could possible be candidates if your head football coach position becomes vacant. We've been caught off guard now twice with coaches stepping down.

    my three;
    1) chucky
    2) chip kelly
    3) charlie strong

    besides saban, its tough to think of a can't miss person. i think chip kelly and gruden are close though, can't imagine gruden not having success.

    I don't get the love for Chip Kelly. We would be putting ourselves on probation for 18 months if we hired him as he has a show-cause.

    Would Dante have to get rid of his doll if Gruden came here?

    Chucky is not going to college footall;

    Chip kelly will not leave the Eagles for Florida

    Strong just lost to UCF at home with Teddy as his QB.

    I'll stick with Muschamp for now...

    Can you imagine the talent his offense would attract out of our state alone? Oregon is not a hot bed of football recruits like fla is, so maybe no need to violate any NCAA rules. Plus, it seems the NCAA isn't in to punishing schools like they used to be.

    Is Gruden really a "can't miss" candidate? He's never coached college. We have no idea if he would be into recruiting. That's a lot of long hours and home visits he's got to get used to. NFL to college doesn't always translate.

    If Muschamp were to go, I'd want Strong. If not, I would want an offensive guy but hire a high profile DC with him.

    Strong
    Briles
    Kingsbury (he fits Foleys mold of a young up and coming guy)
    Franklin

    Briles
    Kingsbury (moving up, except Briles has more history of success)
    Strong

    I'll take Champ.

    He has the right vision and recruiting. He clearly knows how to coach defense and make in game adjustments at an elite level. He is an intense competitor and will continue to grow and learn. If we stay with him, we'll have an elite coach for the long haul, IMO.

    But he has to do what it takes to fix the OL and the offense as a whole. Attrition and injuries have had an impact, but there clearly is also a coaching problem there that has to be fixed, and he has to look at himself honestly and determine if/how he is holding back the offense, and fix that too.

    Saban (no chance)

    Franklin
    Sumlin (doubt we could get him)

    Go ahead seany, everyone knows you're always negative, so rip that post apart so we can see how out of touch with reality you are.

    I asked that mine be taken down due to negative reception. As I theorized last week and do again now, I believe a top three list of realistically interested candidates might make us come to the conclusion there's not a guaranteed improvement out there.

    Briles, Kingsbury, Malzahn, Chip Kelly, Petrino, Strong (but I think we should get an offesnive-minded guy). Not crazy about Petrino as the face of the team (although boy, would I love to see him run our offense!!) and don't think Chip Kelly would be a realistic hire, but that's my list.

    I think it's easier to find a great DC and delegate the defense to him than finding a great OC and doing the same.

    Is it so wrong to be excited to watch the team I love take snaps on offense or should I be content with just winning (even though we aren't even doing that anymore...)??

    Kingsbury really intrigues me but I'm a little concerned about limited HC experience (but hey, at least he would have some...). His upside would be the highest of anyone but can he recruit?? Don't know, but he certainly would have to surround himself with some veterans who have the lay of the land like Travaris Robinson and Joker Phillips.

    Oh well, back to reality...

    Scratch number 1. That would be too many coaches. One above the limit.
