    Thread Rival!

Just copied my from a post on the FS forum:

After a very slow winter of fishing it appears as though we may be turning the corner. We have been doing a lot more "fishing" than actual catching the last couple months but the recent warmish weather gave us hope the fishing would improve.

We blasted off of CK at daylight with clear skies, and a stronger(colder) than expected north wind. Fishing in the morning was super slow, not much action on the near-shore flats besides flipper making a real spectacle of himself. But towards the end of the incoming tide we finally got enough water to slip in some tidal creeks and found the fish. We polled through a real skinny and narrow creek, the water was gin clear so we were able to sight cast all day long which made it all the more exciting.

After running the creek we decided to head out and hit the bars at the mouth of the creek. At this point the water was heating up and the reds were sunning in the shallows next to the bars :nono The contrast of a dark fish on a light colored bottom made them real easy targets for sight fishing. For the next hour or so we took turns netting & releasing big over slot reds, high-fiving, and generally having an awesome time. We ended up with 3 keeper reds including 2 bookend 27in tourney winners, a handful trout, and a bunch of 30+ inch over slots. :beer

Great pics, Rella! Y'all smashed em. I haven't been as much as I normally go during the winter...been in the woods too dang much. My last run was a solo trip back on Feb 2. It was cloudy with a little mist. I went to some dark bottom in about a foot of water and it was on. I took a few 'bottom of the boat' pics, but I was in a hurry because some jackwagon was horning in on me. Consequently most pics had the lure of choice openly displayed...and I don't use those! ;) The reds made a mess of the boat, too...spitting up mud worms and small blue crabs.

The jackwagon was killing me. He rolled in a couple hundred yards ahead of me, the line he was taking was a little too far off the hill, he was by himself and didn't have a trolling motor. He was cranking his big motor occasionally to reposition his drift.

Anyway...here are the contestants that made the ride home with me. Tossed the net a couple times and added a few mullet.

Another great day redfishing for us on Sunday. We caught three nice keepers and released 10 over slot reds highlighted by this 42in 28 lb behemoth! Sightcasted a live shrimp to him in a little over a foot of water, my personal best by far.

wow this thread has fallen. fished last week in rough seas in Grand Cayman. Saw mahi and blackfin chasing bait but nothing wanted what we had to offer. saw big schools of bonefish in the roped off swimming area at Rum Point. 20 - 40 fish, 6 - 10 lbs.

just booked a night tuna fishing trip for Kauai in July. This looks interesting. Anybody ever do any night tuna fishing? Drift with a sea anchor, chum, light up the water under the boat to draw in the squid/baitfish and get your bait into the school if the tuna show. Taking the family on a day fishing trip while there but the night trip looked interesting to me too.

I have done it for swords on the other side of the Gulfstream drifting in an area off the Bahamas known as White sands. We had a couple lights in the water and four squids rigged with light sticks at various depths. Some of the creatures that show up in the lights are pretty wild looking.

We didnt land a sword but caught some sharks and large mahi. Definately a fun trip.

Glad you enjoyed the Caymans. Headed to PI on Monday next week for some inshore fun.

Second trip with the family to CI. Prefer the east and north side to the busy side.

Bait is scarce but snook should be around the moving water as they migrate out to the passes. reds should be schooling soon. if the wind lies down, the red grouper bite has been hot in 65 feet plus
