You are all having way too much fun. Great posts.
Flip you just make sure you keep fishing your people out of the jungle!! :joecool::ninja:
I dunno that the guy on the bow holding on for dear life would agree with you
Finally getting to go fishing tomorrow! So stoked man it feels like it has been months.
Weather is looking great, tides are right, hope we can wear them out.
^^ Good luck!! I think I may get out 2morrow morning also!!!
naw, that dude on the bow was not having any fun!
Got out yesterday. . . and had decent action, if not a good day.
We did whiff on a few BIG fish.
We caught several speicies of throwback fish: squirrel fish, grunts, sand tile, short mutton snapper, short porgies, blue runners
Our dinner catches were a decent king for the smoker and a skipjack tuna that will be seared tonite.
Our big misses were likely large grouper, as we dropped down 7" grunts for bait. Whatever inhaled them, broked us off twice.
Our BIG fish of the day went to my buddy, who has really been wanting to hook and beastly Amberjack. Be careful what you wish for!!
We hit a few of my favorite wrecks. He missed a couple, but finally got a good hookset on one a bit away from the structure. We moved the boat off the wreck... and the fight was on. After 15 minutes or so, and a lot of painful wincing from the angler... a 40+lb AJ came to the boat. My buddy collapsed to the deck holding his back, and his hand locked in the "fighting grip". But he was smiling!
I will post a couple pics on Monday...
Anyone else get out there?
Left the rods at home yesterday - picked up 3 bushels of select single oysters. Cool and damp up here - drizzle on and off all day.
Went out on Saturday and had a good day. It was 35 degrees in the morning with very dense fog, about 20-30 feet of visibility. Once the fog lifted and it warmed up it was a beautiful day. The fish were very lethargic and were not feeding like they usually do. But despite that we managed to catch 7 slot sized reds. The two we kept were 25 inches, and will be blackened along with a couple of steaks tomorrow, yum.
A couple pictures from Saturday... and my buddy who conquered a big AJ. Tragically, seconds after these pictures were taken.... the fish turned and ate my little friend.
rep to all you fishermen
After you catch an AJ like that you have to sit down for a second and think about who won the fight. Those things are real bruisers.
LOL! Funny you mention that... after landing it, my buddy collapsed to the deck holding his back and complaining about his wrist.
He caught it on a rather light rod that we use for deep jigging, and pulled the fish away from a wreck. For whatever reason, those wreck fish seem even stronger!
Anyone going out this weekend?
I am going to try to put my dad on a redfish on Sunday if the weather holds up.
no fishin for me this weekend... too windy.
and this damn cold weather is killing off some of the peacock bass. i found two dead ones this morning. ugh... i hate that.
Rained all day yesterday...went out for a while...got a wet butt, a few trout, some small mutton snapper, and a couple of pompano. Just wanted to wet a line before the next cold front.
I went out on Sunday after some redfish, really hoping to put my dad on a good one. It was cold, windy and the tides were bad for what we wanted to do, but we made the best of it. We still did alright, caught our three fish limit of reds including this one below which was 26 inches.
The best part of bringing my dad is that the man can't do anything without cooking (fine by me) so he brought a little weber grill with us on the boat. So at lunch time when the tide was dead low and fishing wasn't ideal we stopped on a little bar and made some lunch. We filleted one of the redfish we caught and had redfish sandwiches, grilled shrimp we brought from home and some fresh oysters I picked out of the water. Needless to say it was the best meal I have ever had while fishing (I am not counting Cabbage Key bc it’s a restaurant). All in all it was a good day.
I love the fishing stories here! Beautiful fish rella and Hoops! And rella, that meal does sound good!
We haven't been fishing in weeks and weeks. Weather and illness have kept us off the water. It is going to be such a cold week here in Central FL, but warm back up to the 70's this weekend. I'm hoping we can try to get some reds and trout this weekend.
Rella, I am amazed at all the reds that you catch! Wow....
PMC, I was beginning to worry about you!
Glad you and yours are feeling better and welcome back!
