How many coaches outside of Chris Petersen do you know would pass on offers from Florida and Notre Dame to stay at Utah when they were in a mid-major conference and had 0 chance to compete for a national title? It just turned out to be perfect timing that Alex Smith was leaving the same year the Florida and Notre Dame jobs came open.

I think Ohio State will be fine without Braxton Miller when he leaves after next season. Unlike with Brantley, he will have QBs suited to run his offensive system up there.

Agreed. They're consistently in or around the top 25 for SOS.

We actually saw it this year already. I thought the backup at Ohio State actually played better then Miller while he was out.

C'mon. LSU won the National Championship just 3 years after Saban left, with players recruited almost entirely by Saban. If that is setting a program back, then please somebody, set us back!

LSU was a second tier program before Saban. During and now AFTER Saban, they've been consistently a NC contender. Fans and players never like the way any coach leaves (look at Strong and Louisville), but to say Saban set LSU back is absurd.

Only time will tell, but I've learned that coincidences don't happen at every stop.

What's the difference between Muschamp and Meyer?

About five bank accounts, three ounces, and two vehicles.

Muschamp has all the answers this year, will he let the Offense do its thing, or will we have another control freak year if so he will find the door, hopefully he likes his Career and will change like SOS did, let the new Coaches play the talent we have to there fullest and no more up the middle for 3 quarters of the game, still have said we have talent, if Grier is smarter, better than Driskel let him start, Go Gators

So far a big difference is National Championships. Let's hope Muschamp can win them too.

Zooks defense cost us the 30'30 ties at half-ass-u because he has the no-fun-league mindset of a prevent defense. Hindsight is 20/20. Meyer snookered all f of us with his statements about being where he wanted to be in Gainesville. helping players etc. Then he lost Tebow and it all went south . He's good at assessing the team, players etc and worked magic at every place he's been but when the talent level drops off he bugs out. He proved he's a liar and is deceptive. tosu will lose him to Notre Dame within few years.

Totally agree. Posters on here are acting like it's either one or the other. Being a good guy and a successful coach are not mutually exclusive. That's like saying "I've got a secretary that answers phones, but no one likes her. I'd better keep her, because all other secretaries may be nice, but they won't be able to answer phones like this one". Just utterly ridiculous.
I'm getting tired of the hired guns, too.

One thing to keep an eye on with Meyer is whether he can maintain a program at a high level. Some people excel at building organization or turn arounds, but are just not good at maintaining. We were the first place he stayed beyond the initial turn around phase.

If you are talking about the 1994 tie- aka the "Choke at Doak" that was not Zook. Zook had been demoted to special teams coach by then. Our DC was Bob Pruett. He spent one more year in G-ville before bolting up to Marshall and leading them to a i-AA championship in 1996.

Interesting note- after Pruett left Spurrier was ready to name a new DC. That DC was... Ron Zook. But Zook had just taken a job as ST coach with the Steelers, so we got some guy named Stoops.

That's right. He stayed until the turn-around turned into ka-ka, poo-poo.

Winning covers up a lot of problems. I have a client who is a huge FSU fan/Golden Chief and had lunch with him a couple of days after he got back from the NC game. He said it is amazing how winning changes things and makes warts go away. This time last year most FSU boosters were ready to run Jimbo out of town. He was pretty much despised by the big boosters and athletic administrators for being an arrogant ass who to that point had not won anything. He is so different from St. Bobby in terms of how he treats boosters and alumni and as a result, was on very thin ice. He wins a NC largely due to having an amazing QB who makes everyone around him play that much better. A little bit like what happened with us and Meyer and Tebow.

Eventually, the worm will turn. Winston will graduate and then we will see just how good of a coach Jimbo is and whether they will have long term stability.

I agree completely. I think he's pretty average. It's just that the last 4 years have really been traumatic as a Gator fan. Throw in the Zook years and there's a part of me that would accept being just "good" as opposed to this electrocardiogram of peaks and valleys.

The other parts of me, FWIW, typically tell that part to STFU! I wouldn't trade the titles, but I'm over this chit.
