Yeah, I'm saying it. Real Time has them as the #2 conference. This site also has them #2. I'm not buying it. Just watched Iowa, Northwestern, Minnesota, and Penn State and it was pretty bad basketball. Illinois, Indiana, and Purdue suck too. Ohio St is down from their recent level of quality. That's seven pretty bad teams (yes, even Iowa) and one mediocre team in OSU.

They have two long-shot NC contenders in the state of Michigan. Wisconsin is not a title contender. They're simply too slow and offensively challenged to go all the way. Nebraska has a heck of a coach and has overachieved.

I'm not saying the SEC is better. The ACC and the Big 12 have to be though. Even the weak PAC12 might be better than the Big10. Earlier in the season, some pundits were claiming it's the best conference. Again, I'm not buying it. Sagarin has five Big 10 teams in the top 20. He's crazy. Ohio St and Iowa do not belong there.

Iowa just flat out blew up the last month of the season. Everyone was thinking they had turned the corner and were moving back to respectable then 1-5 in league play and the EARLY exit today!

In the back of my mind I have been wondering have the health issues of the coaches son played into all of this!

Well, those sites do have the Big 12 ranked higher. And the ACC has 7 teams that finished 17-15 or worse and their regular season is champion is simply too slow and offensively challenged to go all the way (and lost to Wisconsin this year).

Also, Sagarin's rating is a mathematical formula, so suggesting that he's crazy for ranking the teams where they are doesn't really make sense.

I can admit that in the "big picture," I may have been wrong about "overrated," but . . . hard to argue that they are a great conference when considering the lack of quality at the middle-to-botttom and the fact that they had three teams with a chance for the FF with only one team making it.

Every team in the Big 10 had at least 5 conference wins, so there wasn't a single horrible team in the conference

3 teams in the Conference made the Elite Eight with 1 making the Final Four. It's the best conference in the nation. Great @ the top & mediocre at the bottom. The opposite of overrated

The SEC getting 2 teams in the Final Four aswell doesn't make it any better as a conference. It still sucks overall

Don't tell the ESPN talking bobble heads, even if we have both SEC teams in the final, they will still say the big10 is better even though the rest of the world knows that they believe in unicorns and pixie dust. :p

Ok so let me try and understand this:

Big 10 has every team with at least 5 conference wins; the SEC only had 1 team that didn't.

Big 10 had 6 teams at/or above 500 in conference play; the SEC had 8.

Big 10 had 3 teams in the elite 8; the SEC had 2.

Big 10 has 1 team in final 4; the SEC has 2.

HOWEVER, the Big 10 is great and the SEC is horrible? Don't see it using the logic you presented.

I'm not saying they're overrated but they weren't some super conference and we weren't horrible. I think we were very balanced just like them.

The Big 10 is a "basketball" conference. Everyone up there starts staying inside around the beginning of December and don't come out again till around April or so. Therefore, they must be superior in basketball, or so the logic tells you. And there is some truth to that because they value it more than the SEC BBall fanbases. In history and energy they hold the edge. In pure talent it's about equal.

I live in the coldest region up here (northern MN) and folks do not stay inside during winter. Maybe this area is different from Ohio, Illinois, Iowa, etc. but people do outdoors activities here religiously and year-round. Kind of agree that the Big10 is a "basketball" conference with traditional powers Indiana and Michigan. OSU/WI/MSU have been competitive in recent years. But I don't think they are some juggernaut of a conference as the media has portrayed. Those 5/6 win teams were BAD. The last national champ was MSU in 2000. Before that was Mich 1989 and Indiana 1987. That's three NCs since '87. The SEC has six during that time frame. Sorry, I know this thread is about this year, but was responding to the notion that the Big10 is this traditional power conference.

You may have missed my point or I didn't make myself clear. I grew up in the northeast and I can interject my experience. Basketball, which is played indoors, takes over. While I know people go outside in the winter it isn't to play basketball. The dominant sport in the freezing winter climes is BBAll, the one that can be played indoors. Skiing, snowmobile riding, ice fishing, snowboarding, curling, hockey are all great and worthy outdoors activities but they are not part of a year round basketball culture.
