So the Brilliant UT fan base, puts forth a big petition to hire Bruce Pearl, while CM is still the coach.
Dave Hart tells the NIT if they don't get in the NCAA, they will refuse the NIT, so he can presumably Fire CM.

Fast forward, they get hot at the end make a nice run. The fan base decides maybe CM is a good coach after all.

Now CM looks like he has a job offer to make more money, with a fan base who will probably not do petitions every year. Why would he stay? If it were me, unless Hart was fired(worst AD in the SEC) and I was given a huge raise, I'd be gone, baby gone.

And UT will be back at square one looking for a coach...is Don Devoe still available?

If Martin doesn't make the NCAA next year at UT he'll be fired. He needs to.....get his hat..... and take the deal at Marquette, if offered.

Martin would have to be an idiot to stay. That petition to bring back Pearl, who created the whole mess that Martin was having to clean up, was an embarrassment to the Tennessee fan base. I really will be shocked if Tennessee is not looking for a new coach in a few days, and the blame rests entirely with their overzealous fans.

Yes but Martin has really done it with Pearl's players...not sure he has recruited at Pearl's level. He may have made the tourney but he can thank Pearl for delivering the key players for him.

I've heard that they are giving Grant another year based on a strong recruiting class...

Shaka Smart to UT. Didn't he just turn down Marquette? He could prosper there.

That would be odd...the coach takes the job of the coach leaving for the job he turned down!

Not to say Martin should be fired, but looking at that team, it's hard to see how they weren't better this year than they were. Granted they got screwed with an 11-seed and the play-in game, it's still kind of stunning that they went 24-12 before the tournament.

When you have two big men like Maymon and Stokes, most college basketball teams aren't going to be able to match up inside. Add in Jordan McRae, and there's really no way you should be losing at home to UTEP and Texas A&M or at all to Vanderbilt.

He deserves better and is too smart to make a loser move like that.

I just read that supposedly Katz said if Martin goes Frank Haith will get a call. How that guy keeps getting offers is beyond me.

Just a few things to add: 1) Tennessee underachieved most of the year and lost at least five games they should have won easily. It would be an overreaction to the last 8 games of the season by the UT administration to grant a long extension with a hefty buyout. 2) Jordan McRae and Jeronne Maymon were both recruited by Bruce Pearl and are seniors and Jarnell Stokes will likely declare for the NBA Draft. Cuonzo Martin's recruiting has been average at best. 3) Frank Haith will not get a call for the same reason that bringing back Pearl was never a viable option. UT's Board of Trustees has issued a mandate that while Tenn is on probation in any sport as they currently are that no coach with a track record of major violations (such as what Haith had at Miami) can even be interviewed for employment. It would have taken very little time for Andy Katz to have made a call and confirmed this like John Adams of the Knoxville News-Sentinel has done. Katz is either lazy or has really bad sources. I also dispute that Missouri is a better job than Tennessee. The results of the two programs over the last ten years are pretty much even.
