They can't bail them out. No money. The USA is a dead nation that is on life support. There are many articles out there by some of the best economists on the planet that prove the US is dying. We can't bail them out just like Obama couldn't bail out Detroit. They found a whopping $100 Million which is enough to keep the life support on Detroit but nothing else. Birmingham is on that list due to certain people here that were corrupt - most of them were democrat. You also have the stupidest mayor in history who decided right at the start of the recession to jack up business taxes in the downtown area. Guess what happened? Ghost town. Most small businesses left the downtown area and moved to the outer fringes of the area like Pelham and Trussville. It hurt too since many industrial and commercial businesses stayed which are many of their customers.

Still, the idea of a bailout won't work here because unlike GM and Chrysler, they will never get their money back. How can cities built on public money that generate little profit be able to pay back a bailout? Jack up taxes but then you force people to leave. Then you not only lose the tax money you needed, but the tax money you had.

sure they can---just raise the debt ceiling and "appropriate" more money under some new federal "program" with a bunch of letters, and spin it as "good for the country" -- it happens all the time

Unions leaders (leftists) are like locusts. When they strip the land (ie bankrupt a city/state/country) they move on to the next.

There was an article in the LA Times that cited the study I mentioned: "LA County leads California in poverty rate, new analysis shows." From the article: "The measurement developed by researchers with the Public Policy Institute of California and the Stanford Center on Poverty and Inequality...set California's poverty rate at 22%, the highest in the nation." The Huff Post had an article in 2012 ("The poorest state in America revealed") that put California's at a nation-leading 23.5% (based on U.S. Census data. Florida was the state with the second highest poverty rate, 19.5%.

I told you that Bill Kristol expressed his admiration for LBJ's Great Society in a 1997 interview with E.J. Dionne. I've heard him speak of his admiration for FDR in person, with my own ears. Bill Kristol is America's most influential neocon and he's bragged about having purged all Arabists among Republicans in Congress. People like Bush 41, James Baker, Brent Snowcroft. Bill's father Irving Kristol is the neocon godfather and famously claimed that the welfare state was compatible with conservatism. His son is a chip off the ol' block. As I said, neocons are liberals masquerading as conservatives so as to wheedle influence in the Republican Party. That's why socialists (like yourself?) would rather be seen with them than a traditional conservative. Remember, many of the neocons started out as Trotskyites and then progressed to liberalism before they started pretending to be conservatives so as to dispossess true conservatives from political power. Neocons want tn spread democracy throughout the world whereas true conservatives try to avoid foreign entanglements. True conservatives want limited government at home and abroad, neocons are okay with a welfare state at home and wasting tremendous resources fighting Israel's enemies overseas. Overspemding is bankrupting our cities and country.
