Cruz is a fan:
I like Cruz and am glad to see him assert his conservative values
I never saw or understood the need for a holiday for MLK
If he wants to praise a blatant, proud racist, more power to him. Just more proof he will never, ever be president.
I find the bolded part a bit more frightening. If you were making partisan donations at age 10, is there any chance you are not a terrible, crappy person as an adult ?
I wonder if Cruz would have supported apartheid in South Africa? Helms did. Would Cruz have sang Dixie whenever Carol Mosley-Braun spoke? Helms did. Would Cruz have fought against limitations on smoking on commercial flights because the tobacco industry was his biggest campaign donor? Helms did.
So, river, would you be happy with 100 Richard Byrds instead?
One would think Ted Cruz would have learned not to go praising former political figures that are widely perceived as blatant racists after what Trent Lott went through for his poorly thought out praise of Strom Thurmond...
Apparently 11 years is a long time to have to remember that lesson for though.
You must mean Robert but why is that the option? Name a democrat who says they want a 100 Byrds.
I've not considered this sort of thing conservative values.....more like far right extremism.
Thanks for the correction. So who wants 100 "Robert" Byrds?
Give me 50 real Americans and I'll give the Senate 100 birds.
No one. If you have a link of anyone asking for 100 Byrds, please feel free to share it.
I don't know which makes me cringe more, a motherjones link or the careless and insensitive remarks by Helms. Both pretty worthy.
I like Cruz and really don't give flying Sh@t what you all think.
I don't think anyone does. I don't think there is a Democratic senator that would be foolish enough to embrace a racist that had Helms record. I mean the man defended the policy of apartheid. I will be shocked if any Republicans follow him down this road.
only because you are a lib and have no idea what conservative values are
So Robert Byrd was a disgrace and we're all better off that he's gone?
I see nothing in Helms background that prove him to be a racist
Yeah, we're probably better off that oldline racists (even if publically penitant or reformed) are dead and/or dying off.
I'm willing to bet that VERY few in the Conservative movement who would be considered even remotely mainstream would be real thrilled with the idea of putting Jesse Helms forward as a shining example of conservative values in practice...
Ben- while I think Jesse had plenty of conservative values it is always difficult to use todays standards to judge a man who grew up in an entirely different era
