He will be apart of the RB by committee for sure. What I like about all these guys is they all bring something different.

Any way you slice it a 230 pound running back is good to have especially in the 3rd and 4th quarter....

FSU will think about 2012 when they see him again.

Matt jones will be a gamebreaker this season. I am very excited to watch him in this offense.

He won't be our starter, but he has the opportunity to be one of the most significant contributors on offense. He'll be our second leading rusher and possibly our second or third leading receiver. Loved reading about the formation with Taylor, Jones and Powell all in the backfield at the same time.

I'm eager to see what Lane can do as well, but with how quiet his fall camp was I'm starting to wonder if he could be another "What If" player dealing with a lingering injury. I don't think we'll see too much of him this year, he's already behind Jones, Taylor, Powell, and Brown at least.

I hope I'm wrong though, I was excited when we got him. I would love to see him reach the field in 2014, but realistically I'm holding off expectations until 2015.

I think everyone has their favorites at the RB position--myself included--but I'd much rather the unit be productive as a whole. With a mobile QB and a new up-tempo scheme, there's no reason why we can't get wear out opposing teams over the course of a game--and Jones will play a big part in that with the skillset he brings. At 230 pounds, he's a handful to bring down--and whether his job will be to wear down teams in the first half or to run them over in the second half after their tired, he's going to be a factor in our offense this year.

I really believe that Florida is being discounted based on last years record. If so, we'll surprise a lot of teams with our new offense and desire to win. We have the talent and now need to exploit it while we're healthy.GO GATORS!

Can you imagine facing Taylor, Jones, and Brown? Your tired and the up tempo has you gassed but then, in comes fresh legs with Lane and Powell. Really? And then there is Driskel and Harris.

It's just a bit crowded back there now. The top three guys right now each bring a unique skill that allows UF to expand their playbook. I suspect Lane is similar to Taylor with exceptional speed and power, but his skill set is fairly conventional. He'll move up as soon as Brown is gone or as soon as any two backs get hurt. He's just a RS freshman. He'll get his chance.

And then there is Showers, Joyer, and Herndon.

Oh I absolutely agree with you. I know Lane has speed, and I think he's got a bit more bulk than Taylor does. He'll be more of a bruiser, I think, whereas Taylor is a more rounded RB. I did like how you pointed out that each back has a slightly different skill set that they bring to the table. I think Roper has to be very excited with what he can do in the backfield alone. I wouldn't be surprised to see him mix in some multi-back sets to take advantage of some of the flexibility we have back there.

My biggest question mark still lies in Lane's health. I'm not sure I'm convinced he is good to go for the season. I hope he is, I want to see what they can do with this stable of backs.

I think get there by next season. I guess we will learn soon how much talent the offense is ready to put to use. Maybe Brandon Powell is ready to contribute? Maybe Mack Brown really steps up this season? I hope Lane sees the field if he's ready but he might not be showing enough yet to separate himself from the more experience RBs. So as long as the other RBs are healthy and getting it done, who knows with Lane? If Driskel stays healthy and Harris sees significant snaps that would seem to be a good sign for the season and the future. But he still is a true FR.

I'm curious what readers here would prefer if either were to happen:

    1) Play Taylor in the first and third quarters, then Jones in the second and fourth?

    or

    2) Play Jones in the first and third quarters, then Taylor in the second and fourth?

Mack brown is second string I believe so he will figure in fairly prominently. But to your question I would prefer to see jones catching passes and running against tired defenses.
