Humanitarian response and response to internal crimes are handled by the U.N. for a reason - so we don't have to do it on our own.

Let's assume for the moment a very real possibility - given Obama's stupid "red line" comment rebels backed by al Qaeda stage or create a chemical weapons attack. They do this knowing it is an announced cause for action. If we took the cowboy approach and started bringing in our troops on our own without knowing for sure what happened, that means the U.S. embroiled in another long, dumb war, which is exactly what al Qaeda has stated they want. Not to mention we may trigger a proxy war with Russia.

So the U.N. is there now. Let's see what happened before shooting our guns in every direction.

UN inspectors cannot leave 4 seasons. 6 miles from event and cannot inspect.

Is weaponized gas under gubmnt control in Syria or is it now in AQ hands? Have we been told that the west was prepared to intervene if/when weaponized wmd were threatened?

This is because they're investigating the previous report.

they arrived on Sunday to investigate the first incident and have been kept at the Four Seasons since their arrival because Assad will not let them go anywhere else. Not even to the site of the last event that occurred months ago and where all evidence may be eliminated or degraded before they arrive.

    meanwhile, France is leading

Wouldn't this be the next step after verifying that chemical weapons were used?

if you don't mind closing the barn door after the horse has already left the building

there have been extensive resources deployed and training done to prevent the wmd's from ending up in the hands of terrorists. either the control of the wmd's is not secure and the west did nothing or Assad used the gas.

    neither scenario is acceptable

I'm not sure I follow that logic. Wouldn't you want to verify that chemicals were used in the first place before figuring out who used chemical weapons?

Some conspiracy theory fodder here :) Originally published by the Daily Mail, but quickly pulled off their site. (but nothing on the internet truly disappears forever)

U.S. 'backed plan to launch chemical weapon attack on Syria and blame it on Assad's regime'

what do you honestly think killed all those people?
weaponizing and delivering chemical weapons is not an easy task so either the wmd's that Syria is in control of have been stolen or Syria used wmd's.

it is fairly easy to see that the question as to whether they were used or not has been answered by all the dead bodies even if it has not been documented and the i's dotted and the t's crossed.

It took the UN 4 years to document the chemical weapons attack by Saddam. Is this an issue that can be relegated to glacial time frames typical for the UN???

If the wmd's are not secure, should the west do anything or should they step back from all their previous claims that wmd's security is a critical issue that has no room for delay or discussion?

think Iran might be testing what happens when red lines get crossed?

Is this how we make pivotal decisions? Some video from a group that may or may not be backed by al Qaeda?

Isn't this the kind of specious fast-forwarding that got us into a trillion-dollar affair in Iraq?

seems like the French and now the British are ready to spank Assad. Even Russia is calling for UN inspectors to be allowed access before all chemical footprints disappear.

If AQ is fighting Assad and they are, replacing him with that group is helping us get rid of AQ in what way.

you really dont get it do you. Assad/hezbollah are going to extiguish the opposition that we encouraged and then failed to support. Only reason AQ has a presence is the opposition that we encouraged was getting slaughtered and some of them made a deal with the devil to be able to survive.

0 had a long meeting...3 hours...ooooo...to discuss options with navy. France/Britain going with or without him so as usual he will lead from behind again

Well feel free to go over there to join up and fight Assad.

But leave other people's kids out of it. We have had enough of joining in the non stop wars of the Muslim.
