It appears that Syria just defecated all over 0's red line.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/world...a157e6-0a50-11e3-89fe-abb4a5067014_story.html

Will he lead from in front or from behind?? My bet, he waits on UN to conduct exhaustive investigation which concludes that although chemical weapons were used the source of the weapon is not able to be confirmed. Not sure what he should do but Syria just spit in his (any be default US) face if the reports and the numbers dead are true.

He spent the first couple years of his presidency traveling the globe on his Apology Tour. He told anybody who would listen about all of the United States' wrongs. You really think any nation takes him seriously when it comes to foreign policy? Syria, Egypt, Russia, China and all the rest of the nations couldn't give a rat's rear what 0bama says or thinks. Hell, even Ecuador treats Barry with contempt.

The *real* problem with the line in the sand is it essentially gave rebels (both backed by Al Qaeda and others) a blueprint to how to get U.S. assistance.

Meanwhile the UN security council is there on Monday to investigate other accusations. I'd be interested in what that unearths.

It doesn't make any sense for the Syrian army to do this when the UN just got in. My money is on the terrorists taking advantage of an opportunity. This in no way warrants any US intervention.

There's a lot of consideration of this right now. Logically it would be suicidal to do that. It could easily be the rebels and/or al Qaeda goading us.

I don't want us to go into Syria at all, I don't want us to ever set foot in another country if we aren't prepared to, well, conquer and rule it, to actually earn the imperialist accusations hurled at us. As that is not the case, there is nothing to gain for us by involving ourselves in Syria.

What I wish is that Obama wouldn't draw lines he won't defend. And I can't believe even the most Bush-hating of anti-war liberals would say their real complaint about Bush is that he should have made more empty promises about war.

I would think the US Navy could use some target practice with some cruise missiles approaching the "use by" date. Pick all of Assad's palaces, dachaus, castles etc and send him a little love tap.

Well, it really is all too credible that the "rebels" -- the strongest and most plentiful of which are full out jihadist islamofundies -- did this to troll Obama, see if they can get him to do the absurd and help them. Assad is winning through conventional means, don't see him trying to provoke the US at that stage.

The problem here is that both sides obviously think of the US as a paper tiger that only might, as a longshot, stand by its own rhetoric about chemical weapons, so it isn't unthinkable that either of them would flout our warnings.

if AQ had surface to surface missiles capable of carrying nerve agents and had the nerve agents to arm and effectively deploy the gas I doubt they would waste it on women and children of their own faith.

if they do have that capability, Israel must be very concerned.

Assad did this, or one of his commanders did, to send a clear and concise message that they were in charge of the country and the UN is a toothless tiger that will do nothing to help the rebels regardless of the actions of Assad.

people need to realize that not all syrian rebels are AQ affiliated but more are becoming that way because AQ is the only one willing to help them defend themselves and their families.

Anyone who has been paying attention to this conflict knows that right now the Syrian Army has the upper hand. It makes absolutely no sense for them to basically beg for their defeat by doing something as stupid as this. On the flip side, the terrorists have every reason to do this so they can point the finger at Assad. It seems desperate, but how can you not get desperate when you've lost as much ground as the terrorists have in recent months?

Israel has the most powerful military in the region and the high ground on the Golan Heights. They will be fine.

Stay the hell out of it. I hate seeing innocent being killed but this is the way they choose to treat each other and we are not going to stop it.

I wouldn't put it past AQ to gas Muslims then swoop in to save the day. As you mention: fertile recruiting grounds.

This could very well be true, but the Obama administration will not entertain any such notion. The last outfit in the world that wants to talk about false flag operations is the U.S. government. Suggesting that Assad didn't do it would be like suggesting that Oswald didn't do it. This kind of thinking could snowball and lead to awful things, like a real investigation of 9/11.

Obama made a speech in 2011 defending his decision to take action in Libya saying the US was "different" and for humanitarian reasons needed to get involved.

Now I agree totally with not getting involved in Syria's issues....however...for humanitarian reasons, a wave of cruise missiles targeting Assad's residences, palaces, offices could send a message to cease attacks on civilians without endangering US soldiers lives.

    Just saying.
