Good for you, ignoring that $2 or any other pro bono work you might do, but I didn't say or imply anything you attribute to me in this monologue.

Everyone ignores them until the final amount gets digested by insurance.

You're the one comparing your job to others and complaining, not me, so the only envy on display here is your's -which to be honest seems just a tad misplaced.

Don't take Medicare patients if you don't like it. No one put a gun to your head.

When your average salaries get down to even double the average Americans I'll start feeling sorry for you.

"Using a third-party online collection website, Medscape surveyed 24,216 physicians across 25 specialties from Feb. 1 to 17, 2012. Doctors’ earnings ranged from about $156,000 a year for pediatricians to about $315,000 for radiologists and orthopedic surgeons. The highest earners — orthopedic surgeons and radiologists — were the same as last year, followed by cardiologists who earned $314,000 and anesthesiologists who made $309,000.

The lowest earning doctors are the family guys. Pediatricians and family practitioners make about $156,000 and $158,000, respectively. Internists and psychiatrists rank a notch above, at about $165,00 and $170,000, respectively...."

Don't be so condescending. That's money the insurance owes me that's not worth collecting. My "pro bono" work, as you call it, is for individuals that need my care but can't afford it, and would be well into the thousands. I don't keep records of that.
Now you respond by saying the last time you built a free house was....

    Let me educate you.
You are referring to an "explanation of Benefits", that is NOT a bill, for those that don't know the difference.
I'm talking about actual bills for money due, after the insurance has been filed (usually a deductible or a cost share). Are you telling me you admit to skipping out on doctor bills and are proud of that? Or were you just unaware about the difference between an EOB and a bill? Which is it?

What is a normal job and why is being a doctor a normal job?

Oh, the envy dripping from this post...where to begin?
I don't recall dpm asking for you to feel sorry for him. He was simply making the point that Obama and people like you want to cry and gnash teeth over his prices, while everyday Americans probably pay more for their cellphone bills or their power bill. Do you want Obama to nationalize those, too? Why should power bills be $400?

I also like how you've spent every one of your posts on this website calling for nationalization and government monopolization of my industry, then have the nerve to say no one's forcing doctors to take it.

If it reduces your doctor envy slightly, you may find it helpful for your jealous mind to know there's no pediatricians making $146K. They make around $85K, never above $100K. All one has to do is ask one's doctor friends, unless of course, one's alienated them all.

Hey dpm, let's cut to the chase here.
We both know there are doctors that make more than us. We both know there are lawyers, realtors, accountants, contractors, restauranteurs that make more than us. I don't hate them, I don't ask for Obama to nationalize them or punitively tax them or anything. Good for them, they obviously made good career choices. There's a poster on here who's a dentist, and he may never know how good he has it versus what we have to deal with regarding insurances. But we don't envy him, we don't call for his or her comeuppance. Instead, good for them, they're in a profession that so far has avoided the oppressive government thumb.
But as you have discovered with a pretty innocent original post, there are liberals out there who are exceedingly envious, susceptible to class warfare propaganda, and who belittle your services and want to use the government to be the great equalizer. Sorry you had to find that out on here. I know your original intent was educational and informative.

    True story.
I have a patient that is a plumber. For years, I took care of him when he had awful insurance, high-deductible stuff, I'd cut him breaks, charge him a flat rate whether it was for a hangnail or a heart attack, probably could've charged him thousands whilst only accepting dozens each visit.
When I had a minor situation at the house (toilet making funny noise), the wife called him, thinking he would return the favor and help us out. Instead, he helped himself to $400 just to come out and tell her to call a septic man instead.
But I heard his overhead is absolutely astronomical.....

I am from the north end of Okaloosa County.

I have a few MDs for clients. Most are in the 500k + range. PAs are in the 150s. I think I would rather be a PA.

My parents still live on the Green of 7 and the Tee of 8 on the Lake course.

Unfortunately the newest course Magnolia is about to be developed on but land is at a premium there...

I am married to a dentist and I fear the day we have to deal with what you do. I worry we are only 20 years behind before people like row lump the dental industry in fully with medicine.

And you are spot on about good for those who are successful regardless of what they do!

    Hey Bush,
Are they employed or self-employed? My pay shifted when I went from being a lackey to my own boss (of course, my responsibilities and stresses went up astronomically too, although some on here don't take that into account). Are they specialists? Bear in mind, Obama wants to force all doctors to be employees...
I recently explored the idea of hiring a PA, but I can't afford one. IMO, the number you quoted for PAs is ridiculous. Unless they work in a hospital or for a neurosurgeon or something. But I totally get what you're saying.

    Art,

I agree with everything you said. Thanks for posting. I have no envy at all and if a plumber makes more than me then he must have worked pretty hard to do so and congrats to him. I am not asking anyone to regulate his prices because they are too expensive. I am not asking that he perform his services at a discount because hot water is needed by everyone. But so many others ask this of doctor's.

I have a patient (as many of us do) who I've seen for free for the past several months. He had gas in his foot proximal to his ankle. I had did 2-3 I and D's on him and am now seeing him in the office weekly. I got him setup to have expensive ($1800 x 5) grafts to his foot to help close the wound faster, all free. I have seen him probably 15 times at the hospital and 10 times in clinic to this point. All he ever talks about is how he can't believe what his ID doc/IM doc/the hospital is charging him. It can get real annoying. And then he will always joke about how I drive a BMW (which I don't) and go golfing every afternoon (I hate golf).
