A good friend and I watch TV series "together" over the phone 2-3 times a week. Over the months we've watched all the seasons of True Blood, Dexter and through season 3 of Game of Thrones. The next season of True Blood doesn't come out until June, so we are looking for suggestions for something that's similar - a serial if you will....something that isn't neatly wrapped up each episode. We were thinking about watching Lost - I saw the first couple of seasons, but missed the rest. He saw the whole thing and refuses to watch the last season again  For some reason he doesn't want to watch Breaking Bad or Mad Money....yeah, he is a bit weird :) Anyone have other suggestions?

I'm binge watching Lost now...1 or 2 episodes per evening. I never watched when it was running. I've heard people were disappointed with the ending, so I'll have low expectations. Really hooked on the exotic and intertwining plot.

    How about 24 and Longmire?

The Wire - Maybe the best TV show ever.
The Shield - Awesome anti-hero cop show
Justified - Raylan wears a Gator shirt in one episode if that helps.
Doctor Who - Start with the new series.
Orphan Black - Season 2 just started and you will devour season one. Join the clone club.

Those would be my top 5.

I watched Lost first season on DVD and loved it. But then tried watching season 2 as it aired and totally lost interest. I think its one of those shows that might just be better to binge watch. I need to try to go back and finish it.

Orphan Black-Orphan Black is a Canadian science fictiontelevision series created by screenwriter Graeme Manson and director John Fawcett, starring Tatiana Maslany as several identical women who are revealed to be clones. The series focuses on Sarah Manning, a woman who assumes the identity of her clone, Elizabeth (Beth) Childs, after witnessing Beth's suicide. The series raises issues about the moral and ethical implications of human cloning and its effect on issues of personal identity.

A Young Doctors Notebook -a British dark comedy television series adapted from the autobiographical works of the Russian author and playwright Mikhail Bulgakov. The events take place in Russia over the period of 1917-18, the show tells the story of a doctor looking back on his time practicing in a small village hospital and struggling with his progression to morphine addiction. It starsJon Hamm and Daniel Radcliffe.

Top of the Lake- a 2013 television miniseries written by Jane Campion and Gerard Lee, and directed by Campion and Garth Davis. It marks Campion's first work for television since An Angel at My Table in 1990. Filmed and set in New Zealand, the drama series follows a detective (Elisabeth Moss) investigating the disappearance of a pregnant 12-year-old girl.

Derek-Derek is a bittersweet comedy drama about a group of outsiders living on society's margins.

Derek Noakes (played by Ricky) is a tender, innocent man whose love for his job and the people he cares for shines through. He's 49 years old and loves animals, Rolf Harris, Jesus, 'Deal or No Deal', 'Million Pound Drop' and 'Britain's Got Talent' - but his main hobby is autograph hunting.

He works in a retirement home with his mate and landlord, Dougie (Karl Pilkington in his very first acting role).

Derek cares deeply for old people because they're kind and funny and tell him stories about the olden days.

Hannah (Kerry Godliman) is a care worker at the home and is Derek's best friend. She's smart, witty and hard working, but unlucky in love; and like Derek, always puts other people first.

You need to work through Season 2, because the intensity really picks up near the end of two and in three. I'm about halfway through Season 3 right now.

I would agree with starting House of Cards. Pretty intense. Weeds is also a good one.

Dexter isn't too bad although it hits a lot of "been there, done that" spots. Power through and it gets going again.

I originally listed it but I haven't even seen it myself. I just want to binge watch it as soon as I find some time.

It can't live up to the hype I would give it so I won't try.

Honestly I wasn't a big fan of the first episode, but I hung in because it had a 9.5 I think at the time on IMDB and by the second episode I was completely hooked. Give it a chance until you get the show's vibe, it will be worth it.

Most of the great ones have been mentioned except for my current favorite, Person of Interest. It's also worth mentioned that 24 starts again next week. You could binge on it till the first new episode or just start fresh with the understanding that Jack has saved the free world but for some reason is a fugitive with both his country and all kinds of baddies out to kill him. Best of luck to them. He is the ultimate bad ass and the world's greatest and most neurotic hacker, Chloe, has his back.

I should consult my daughter. Every semester, she has to binge watch two or three TV series from inception to the present and write a ten page "theory" paper on each. Last time I asked, she thought Breaking Bad was the best TV show ever made.
