Warning or not, this was a pissing contest by school authorities and an childish response on their part. I am married to a former principal of a large High School who thinks they are out of their minds for such a punishment.

Yeah the crime wasn't in asking, it was in asking after he was told not to. Once he defied the school they had no choice but to discipline him.

I think its silly and childish too, but what would the school look like if they tell you not to do something, you do it anyways and there is no punishment?

They told him not to - 10 minutes before the event - which, given the nature of teens was probably not a great idea if you want to succeed. Undeveloped frontal lobe and all...

That is a fair question. But there are wide variety of penalties that an administrator can levy. A 3 day suspension looks more like a pissed off Asst Principal from The Breakfast Club than an honest attempt at amending behavior.

So you aren't opposed to a punishment, but you don't like the one they handed down? What else could they have done? I haven't been in high school in awhile to know how they punish.

I think this whole asking celebs to prom or the Armed Forces dance is old and played out. Sure, once in a blue moon the celebrity says yes or replies. I guess I can't fault them for asking. Some of them are creative and funny. Just seems tiresome to me...

I'm pretty sure he was hoping to be doing some banging after the prom.

He should be allowed to ask whomever he wanted too, even if it was Al Roker.
