People who are facile with economics don't need the context. I can easily dial up the cost of an item in 1970 make some basic educated inflation assumptions and come up with an expected future value in my head. It's apparently impossible for you which leads me to believe you did not graduate from the college of business.

If you have followed the last fourty years it's not hard to be within 1% of the real #. Overtime that can be a significant number but nowhere close to what obob would estimate.

You know what they say about economists.

A scientist, an engineer and an economist are stranded on a deserted island and discussing how they can get back to civilization. The scientist discusses how they could possibly put together a power source and a radio to call for help. The engineer makes plans for how they can construct a sound raft. The economist looks up and says "assume we have a boat . . ."

    ;)

(Bonus points for any of my fellow UF economics grads who can tell me which econ professor tells that joke.)

It's sort of staggering how egregiously you are missing the point here. (hint: the point was not an accurate 1970 dollar cost of milk).

Since you seem to be struggling with the bigger picture, just substitute $X for the price as that was in no way the focus of the response.

No need to talk to Soho anymore he is not around to read it. Repeated insults after warning brought this on.

Darn, while bizarre that was, let's say somewhat entertaining, to say the least.

He could have been a decent poster even though a bit over the top. But good poster, or not, he is not going to continue to insult other members. It's totally uncalled for.

There are fewer cows on university campuses now than there were in 1970. That could affect the price of "milk".

Like so many professors who believe their education and ego should entitle them to a high salary and a life of respect without actually having to produce anything.

We don't elect PhD's and that is the problem. They are almost all JD's and MBA's.

The bill was passed in Congress GWB signed into law. The clock started in 2007.....10 years of cumulative service while being in repayment and working for a non-profit 503(c)/government job. If you do that, then the loan balance would be forgiven. It was a measure put in place to draw in a higher caliber employee into a lower paying job instead of a higher salaried job in the private sector. I think it is a great plan.

It is my understanding the '72 -'76 students at UF are some of the most brilliant in university history.

We don't need to elect anyone, IMO, whose time in academia + government (elected or civil service) > private sector employment. Would never put that as some sort of formal requirement, because I'm not Soho and this ain't China, but it's a good guidepost as to who is going to do more harm than good in elected office.

Indeed...a real sweet spot in UF academic history. I was surrounded by thousands of students nearly as brilliant as you and me!!
