Well, after reading all the b*tching about our spring game possibly being cancelled just wanted to point out that we may not be the only school. Due to renovations of Kyle Field, Texas A&M may have to cancel their spring game:

The Southeastern Conference explicitly outlines its rules for spring games, in an excerpt from the SEC Commissioner's Regulations provided by league official Herb Vincent. Primarily: “All spring practices, including spring games, must be held either: (1) on campus; (2) in a facility regularly used for practice or home competition in the immediate campus community; or (3) in a facility used at least twice during the applicable academic year for regular season home competition.”
According to A&M athletics spokesman Alan Cannon, the Aggies can apply for a waiver from the SEC to play the game off campus, but ...
“There are also NCAA rules prohibiting contact with prospective student-athletes and/or families and coaches at off-campus events, such as a spring game,” Cannon added.

Wasn't aware that our spring game might be cancelled. Why would it?

There's a difference between not having a venue in which to hold the spring game and not having enough healthy players to field the teams necessary to have a game.

If the University of Florida was spending a lot of money to modernize BHG stadium, for example, (cause I don't think expansion is realistic at this point) no one would complain about not having a spring game.

Some might be sad about not seeing the gators till August, but the vast majority of the fanbase would be happy to see the stadium getting an overhaul.

On the other hand, not having a spring game because the coaches haven't recruited enough offensive players is a reason for fans to be displeased.

I think people are referring to last year's lack of a Spring Game. So far as I can tell, there is no suggestion that Muschamp is preparing to repeat his decision in the wake of a four-win season. Hopefully, he understands the fan base is waiting to see some progress.

"He said the number of women’s restrooms will be doubled upon the project’s completion in 2015 — adding he hoped that would help stop emails directed at him — and that cell/text message service should be much improved at the football venue starting this season.
Meanwhile Craig Kaufman of the architectural firm Populous said canopies over the east and west sides of the new Kyle Field will make it at least as loud as the Seattle Seahawks’ football stadium — which recently was recorded as the loudest on record."

    Growing trend?

    Pittsburgh cancels 2014 spring game

    http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoo.../24460251/pittsburgh-cancels-2014-spring-game

"The thought behind [the decision], honestly, is to get one more good work day out of them," Chryst explained, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "Most, if not every spring game I've been a part of, you really end up sacrificing a lot. It sounds crazy, but just being locked into a place, bad weather. ... You're kind of locked into that day. These days are really valuable for us."

Pittsburgh only got 3,000 fans to their spring game. Chryst has a valid reason for cancelling the game and having another practice.

Seems if the spring "game" is run like a regular scrimmage it's not much different than a legit practice....plus it rewards the kids w/ a chance to play in front of family and friends (at places like SEC schools that get 10's of thousands of fans). The walk-ons really enjoy these moments.

Meyer ran a really efficient spring "game". He would allow the kickers to keep kicking by moving the ball back 5 or 10 yards every time they made a kick (vs. a real game, getting 1 attempt).
