He's not that far away from the peak NOW at SC. They are quietly having an excellent recruiting class, especially along the DL and at CB - their greatest needs.

Give it as rest Jersey. Nobody here but you Cock fans care about their recruiting or whatever gains they are making. Like I've said before, you know more about USCe football than about 95 percent of their fans. Take that as a compliment. o_O

Call me when he wins a championship there.

    So far:
    0 NCs
    0 SECs

This after 4 straight top 20 recruiting rankings.

He was one lucky bounce away from having Auburn's record. Recruiting rankings are pretty meaningless if you keep losing assistant coaches like they have in recent years. They finally have stability at the OL coach position which they never had until this one arrived. They are stacked at OL next year and for once don't appear to be losing any assistants.

Many on this board were saying they would never be any good. Now they're just one of 4 teams with at least 11 wins in the last 3 years. Two of those years their schedule was ranked in the top 5 or so as the toughest per Phil Steele's preseason rag.

And Will Muschamp had Auburn's regular season record in 2012. I'm not sure what point you're making.

Is South Carolina better? Without question. Will he ever match his time at Florida while at USC? Absolutely not.

If Mark Stoops were to match Spurriers record at Carolina the next 4 years, he will be coach of the year and at the top of the pyramid in coaching searches.
Carolina was no better than Kentucky in the years before Spurrier took over.
But like the recruits who sign with us and not UFS, he sucks.
No, Spurrier will never match there what he did here.
    This program is that good.

Spurrier loses to Tenn because he lost his QB.
UF loses some players and lose to GA Southern

Okay, if "adviser to the AD" is really just kind of a phony, honorary gig so he can keep drawing a paycheck to cover his greens fees, then maybe I can see it. But actually going to work at an office with a suit and tie on a regular basis? No way. Not happening.

As for why SOS has no interest in "coming back" here, keep in mind that as much as we think of him as a Gator, Florida is not actually his home. He's from Tennessee and has lived in a number of different places since graduating from UF. So there's not necessarily any reason to assume he would make Florida his permanent home upon retirement.

Well, no reason other than the fact that it seems like damn near everybody makes Florida their home upon retirement lol

Yeah and FSU was the best team in the country most of those years.
He lost 2 to FSU teams who went on to win NC
Who had a better record against FSU in those years?

Spurrier is one of the best coaches in the country.
IF he spent the last 12 years at a top ten school he would have a few more NC
    GOt news for you.
Coaching at USCe is not coparable to coching at UF.

Solid post, the whole thing, but regarding your last comment, I think it's fair to note that at South Carolina he's had nowhere near the legendary players that he possessed at UF, either.

They say he's recruited his best QB yet, especially in terms of passing, who was redshirted this year and will be an RS freshman in the Fall. I don't think they'll miss Clowney much since they have 3 good DL redshirts, a top 10 frosh at DE and 3 JC recruits coming in. Spurrier seems to be taking notes from other SEC schools like Auburn and Georgia by recruiting DL from JCs.

Agreed, but he has gotten the best players that state can put out and still only made it to the SEC Title game once, getting blown out.

He's an incredible man, and he's having fun. And he has taken this program where it has never been before.

If any "Spurrier is over the hill" or "Spurrier is past his prime" or "Spurrier will never win an SEC championship at SC" members want to back up their opinions with a wager, let me know. Lee Corso is apparently ready to crawl across the field and kiss SOS ass, so I expect the stakes to be at least as high.

This is what I was going to post:

The best that state can put out? Okay but the state is South Carolina. How many Gamecocks in the NFL?

But then I said hmm, good question actually. Glad I looked it up and narrowly avoided getting pwned as the kids used to say.

Turns out there's a whole bunch of Gamecocks in the NFL. More than I thought and good ones too. So I got nothing.

    Tap tap.

If you look at that map "Where do college players come from" South Carolina as a state does ok. It's not South Florida, but it's pretty strong. UT and UNC and FSU used to pull the best players from here- but Spurrier and Dabo have stopped that. (Though UGA continues to pull.)

I think USCe will win the SEC East next year with a 50% chance to win the SEC. They have a solid team.

Makes it even more mysterious of why they've only made the SEC title game once.
Those members have been right...for nearly a decade.

This really isn't true. After Holtz arrived they had a couple of good seasons and seriously improved recruiting. Find me Kentucky's 9-3 season in that time span.
