I have a friend that built an outdoor pistol range on his property. Anything and everything you could want from 5 yrds to 500 yrds. (Not an exaggeration). Covered shooting bays, bathroom, bbq, the whole nine yds. We spend all day out there - the money we save not going to a pay to shoot range...we spend on rounds, hamburgers, and cokes.

Oh,try this. Get helium filled balloons. Head sized. Tie two close together. Like hostage situation. Call your shot and read the wind.

Picked up a Ruger Mark I. Yeah they're old and they don't make 'em anymore but they look cool being modeled on the Japanese Nambu type 14, they are tack drivers, and a good .22 long plinker is way cheaper than shooting anything else.

I've ordered a Remington R1 which I've had my eye on for quite a while.

Just got my M&P9 back from Salient Arms today. Got a full frame job (stippling and cuts in the trigger guard and behind the mag release) and their tier 1 fitted fire control group with flat-face trigger. I've only dry fired it so far but WOW this trigger is nuts. No overtravel, short reset, a very small takeup, and a crisp ~4.5lb icicle-like break. It may even be better than the SRT single action pull on my Sig P229.

Here it is in the Haley Strategic/G-Code Incog holster w/ mag carrier and Costa Ludus/Taran Tactical +4 base pads (total 21+1 capacity). This may replace my P229 as my EDC.

I bought a Vedder Holster on Sunday and got it today. I love it, same as my CBST but thicker leather and they're from Florida.

Finally got to take the M&P to the range tonight. I have a new favorite handgun. first mag (21 rounds) at 15 yards. Not really taking my time for accuracy either. And holy cow this trigger...

It ate up 100rds of 124gr Federal Subsonic FMJ along with 5 rounds of Federal HST I ran through to see how it would cycle. Now I just need to get some 10-8 sights

Bought a new M&P 40 last Thursday. 40 minutes in and out, even got 250 rounds for the range and 20 Critical Defense for carry. No problem at all! Take that Washington.

Good grouping. I usually use two silhouette targets, one at about 18 feet and the other between 35 - 40 feet. I have a majik marker I use to mark the primary target areas (center mass, head, throat, shoulders, gut, with tennis ball - sized circles and a quarter - sized circle in the center, as well as a marked out head and eye to each side of the target's head to represent a hostage taker and to make ocular shots.

I then go through a repetition of hitting all those shots at both ranges.

That pistol you have there appears to be very accurate (factory settings?), from that grouping, but I noticed from the grouping and range you indicated that you might be jerking a little on the trigger a little.

Concentrate on the trigger pull and keeping the sights on target. No doubt you have them zero'ed in pretty well.

Yep, the only internal change is the factory trigger assembly has been replaced with a SAI fitted fire control group that is far, far superior. The sights are factory, the barrel is a factory 5 inch threaded barrel. From what I can tell, it seems to have a really good and consistent lockup without much wiggle.

But like I said, I also wasn't taking my time at all. I had 100 rounds to get through in about 20 minutes before the range closed, including the time to reload my magazines. I was mainly interested in the grouping rather than trying to dial in my grip and trigger pull. I'll be replacing the sights with some 10-8 performance sights soon (blacked out rear, red fiber front) at some point soon.

I know you didn't mean anything personal by it, but some people HAVE to shoot that way. My son is blind in his right eye and has to shoot that same way. Honestly, he does a pretty damn good job too (even in his good eye he is 20/200). I took him to my buddies hunting lease last weekend to shoot his new AR. With open sights he was hitting a Gatorade bottle, 64oz, from 20-30yds out. My brother has a shooting range out back of my parents property up to 200yds. With a scope my son can shoot accurately up to 60-80yds. Luckily, he hasn't gotten any hot brass spit back out at him. Yet lol. He shot a hog year before last and I'm going to see if I can put him on a deer this year. He's pretty stoked about it

Ordered some new AR lowers last week and picked them up from my FFL yesterday. Watched him run my NICS check over the phone, process was not different at all from buying when there isn't a shutdown.

(Yes I did order the lowers online and wasn't buying off the shelf in-store, but that shouldn't matter since I assume you're interested in the 4473/NICS check part of the process since the shutdown wouldn't affect anything else.)
