Selections were announced today. We got a somewhat surprising #2 seed, meaning we'll host the first 3 rounds.

It's really quite a favorable draw overall but it will still be a challenge for the team to go far assuming Havana Solaun is out for the tournament after her injury in the SEC tourney final.

    Here is the Gator bracket:

    [1] Virginia Tech vs UMBC
    West Virginia vs Rutgers
    Boston U vs Harvard
    [4] Santa Clara vs California

    [3] UCF vs St. John's
    Oklahoma State vs Arkansas
    Colorado Coll. vs Duke
    [2] FLORIDA vs Jacksonville

First round is this weekend and then the 2nd and 3rd rounds are the following weekend.

Pretty good draw, although UCF will be a definite challenge. But first time in many years that a final four berth is realistic.
Have not heard anything on Havana injury, that could be a difference maker.

They have not announced anything new on the Solaun injury. I don't know if that's good or bad.

Gators dominated JU in Round 1 this afternoon, 2-0 final.

Next weekend (assuming Fri/Sun?), we'll host the 2nd and 3rd rounds:
    (2) FLORIDA vs [Duke/Colorado College winner]
    Arkansas vs [(3) UCF/St. John's winner]

Duke/CC is tied 1-1 at halftime and UCF is playing later tonight.

SEC teams went 6-0 in round 1, with Arkansas winning on the road at Okla St.

Some good news - (3) UCF got upset by St. John's 3-1, despite outshooting them 26-3.

Also, Duke beat Colorado College on PKs, so the matchups for next weekend are:

    (2) FLORIDA vs Duke
    Arkansas vs St. John's

Duke is probably the toughest team remaining in this pod, but the team has to really like their chances to make the final 8 now.

For some reason, we are not hosting next weekend, so the 2nd/3rd round matches in our pod are being played at Duke. That is going to be a really tough 2nd round matchup now.

How in the world can that happen???? Only possible explanation would be UF not putting in a bid to host, which I doubt is the case. Every other #1/2 seeded team is hosting. Except for the Gators.

I think that has to be the case, but will be interested to find out why. Hopefully Becky will shed some light on it in her weekly press conference tomorrow.

Granted, we have been upset on our home field in either the 2nd or 3rd round 3 years in a row so a change of scenery and the bigger field at Duke might help the team in some ways, but losing home field is still tough to overcome and really stinks for the fans who have turned out well for this team all season.

Probably the same reason the AD didn't want to host WNIT games I guess. Or he didn't want to host NCAA games at Percy Beard Field while Volleyball was going on in the O'Dome?

I will be in Durham but I don't understand why you would give up your home field. Just dumb.

Another post-season disappointment. Should play at home as long as you can if you earn the right to do it. Just dumb.

Looks like Becky outsmarted herself this time. What an incredibly risky and dumb decision that turned out to be. Another early post season exit for a very talented team. This is what we have come to expect from Becky and Gator soccer in the NCAA tournament though. I know losing Solaun was BIG. But her loss is even MORE of a reason why you stay at HOME!!!!

When is it time to turn the page on Becky? Every year we seem to exit much earlier then anticipated.

She is still (easily?) the best *female* soccer coach in the country. It is what it is - she's not going anywhere.

And I don't think you can blame it all on her. The reality that you see from the match tonight is that the SEC champs are about equivalent to the 7th place ACC team. The lack of competition in the conference is probably the biggest obstacle to post-season readiness and of course doesn't help recruiting whatsoever.

Feels like you could have basically the same conversation about volleyball.

But do you really think Foley is going to fire Burleigh and Wise, the greatest female coaches of all-time in their respective sports, and replace them with men?

Long overdue. Still living off Danielle Foutopolous' shot to win the 98 NC and Abby Wambach's run to the College Cup. The Gator soccer program hasn't done jack since then. Winning the SEC and SEC Tournament doesn't mean much these days since only 2-3 teams in the conference give a darn.
