23-9 record with quality wins over Louisville, Memphis, Cincinnati, and 2 over UConn. Along with only a 3 point loss to Virginia.

    AP #25, BPI #33, and RPI 55.

I know that they had a softer overall schedule and have lost three in a row including a first round exit in their conference tournament.

But man, that's a tough snub.

First ranked team since 2004 to not make the tournament

I don't have a problem with it. The bottom half of the AAC is really, really bad. Best non conference win was against Sam Houston State. I couldn't believe when they were never mentioned on the bubble by "experts". Lots of really bad teams battling for that last spot, should have given it to a potential cinderella team like UW-GB.

Yeah but they beat Louisville but they made Louiseville a 4 so maybe they know something we don't because I was most afraid of them.

It's a bizarre bracket and tons of parity down the line. Couldn't have picked a better year to be a top seed.

Ridiculous considering they have a better profile than NC st. Nc state was 2 spots better in rpi though which is apparently the only thing that matters to this stupid committee.

Larry Brown got the same message from the selection committee that Billy Donovan got in 2008 and 2009......"play somebody with a pulse outside your conference." Billy heard the message and we now play one of the toughest OOC schedules in the nation. Its up to Larry what happens to SMU from here.

    Excellent point Doctor.

Of course, Wichita State got a Number 1 seed after playing about the weakest schedule in the nation.

I liked that we stepped up the schedule, but our 2008 and 2009 teams could not have handled it anyway. Light schedule was for the best with those teams, if they had a more brutal schedule, it just would have meant more losses. The results likely would have been the same (as far as NCAA tournament).... probably all that would have happened was the 20 win season streak would have gone by the wayside.

I think everyone knew it would be a rebuilding process, definitely for that 1st year. There's only so much coach could do.

Going into this year, I felt UF would be awesome. So I wanted to see them have a beast of a schedule. Early on with all the issues, I thought maybe they made a mistake. But they really came through it this year.

I applaud the move by the committee

Punish that PATHETIC OOC schedule. You can't control your conference, but you decide your OOC schedule and their schedule was an absolute joke. They lost 3 straight, including losing the first round of their conference tourney.

I applaud not giving the 121(I believe)st schedule an at large bid even if they are ranked. That's unacceptable.

SMU played more teams with an RPI below 200 than they did teams with an RPI above 100. I wouldn't have necessarily put NC State in, but SMU has nobody to blame but themselves. The committee's rules have been very clearly established over the last few years.
