Smart(er) on Crime

    Knowledgeable folks about the criminal justice/legal system have been pushing for such changes for decades and some states have already taken such measures. But this is good news.

    Get rid of those mandatory minimums. Give judges discretion. Reserve prison for serious violent and predatory offenders...hopefully they will remove the racially biased 1:18 crack cocaine disparity.

    It definitely is smarter on crime, and could save society tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars....though we all know that any such savings will be blown elsewhere...

    I would hope not. That's one of the most disturbing things is that while there has been some earnest reforms, these drug raids really need to stop feeding the damn machine.
