Says more about us than Meyer.

And she's right to an extent. As per one of your sig quotes, "some of our fans need to get a grip."

Although she should realize that some of the hostility is directly related to some of Meyer's actions. It didn't happen in a vacuum.

    Nice read.

Here's the full quote since I'm sure some are going to take it the wrong way:

“No, I would say it’s equal,” she said. “I just didn’t know it was this rabid here. But it’s less hostile here than at Florida. I mean, the SEC as a whole is a more-hostile feeling to me. I thought that ever since we went down there. It’s just meaner.

“Now, I know ‘The Team Up North’ versus Ohio State game is pretty mean; everybody is pretty mean when that game rolls around. It’s extremely competitive, but it’s just not as mean (as the SEC). Not as dirty and mean. I hate to say that, but that’s just how it is in the South. College football is everything down there."
    Can't really disagree with her.

    She also said this:

"However, I will say that I love the Gators and always will. Urban worked really hard there and won two national championships. It hurts to hear some fans and media criticize him personally and make him out to be a bad guy. I still go to Gainesville a lot and hang out with our old friends, go to our favorite restaurants and I go to my old gym."

Well she seems to be talking about the games and rivalries themselves, not Florida fans specifically.

I wonder if she was rarely sober for this interview.

There was NO hostility against Meyer before he pulled his self-aggrandizing, self-dramatizing "oh I have to step back for my family..." act.

Despite Meyer being a narcissist and a cold fish, he got plenty of love in Gatorland, the years 2006-2010 were some of our greatest years, and he gets most of the credit. Still does in my book.

But while Shelley can choose not to call her husband and gravy train out for his charade, that doesn't mean we have to.

The way he left, and when he left, sucked, and he hurt the program.

And just wait until he goes 7-5 at OSU, the fans won't be quite as cuddly as Shelley thinks them to be.

I realize she is referencing the rivalry aspect and rapid nature of fans, but Hotlanta is exactly right here. Urban is in the honeymoon period at OSU. I've seen enough videos of Mich/OSU/Wis fans to realize they are as capable of acting out as any other fanbase. Including those in the  south.

How nice were these OSU fans?:

If he had just left the first time, none of this would be an issue. He did what he thought was the right thing, it went terribly and now they have to deal with how we feel about him.

While much of the hostility did come after the 2009 season, there was hostility toward Urban every step of the way-Some years it was not so much, other years it was...

We went undefeated in 2009 until the SECCG and fans complained every step of the way. Not all fans, even a small portion, but when you are the wife of a coach raising a family I would imagine the megaphone of the disgruntled fan is much louder than it is to a casual fan.

Putting fan hostility on some sort of measured continuum is a very complex task. Some may be perceiving fan message board hostility as being representative of the fanbase in general. I'm not discounting the vocal p0tential of our fans, but wonder if some are thinking that angry Gator Country p0sters = hostility.

How have I NEVER seen this gem?! They lost at the running challenge, too? That was hilarious, even though they defaced a replica Albert.

Good question and I have no idea-I imagine that much was heard at games. I judge GC a little because I know that around 5:30 in the morning, most every morning, the Shelley account was logged in on GC. I suspect that it was Urban at times as well. I got called by coach Meyer (GC Help Desk) one time about something at GC (not anything about a thread), so I sort of thought he was more than a casual observer.

I'll never forget Shelly standing outside the stadium pre-game on the alumni side yelling at a guy smoking as he was walking past the stadium "Sir do you know this is a smoke-free campus?"

She does have a point on the passion and even the hostility. Not all fans, but enough to make a point of it

Wherever they Meyers currently are at just so happens to be the best program in the country, have the best fans in the country, the best traditions, rivalries, etc. Yawn.

They are still in the honeymoon stage at OSU
Wait until they lose some games they shouldn't have.
Or Meyer goes in the fetal position and quits on them.
We'll see what kind of fan base they are then.

Amazing that some people still can't accept that there was no maliciousness about the circumstances of Meyer leaving UF. Get over it.
