Anybody watch the first episode? Did Shark Week jump the shark?
They filmed every shark in the world being slaughtered by excitable fishermen in small boats. SHARK WEEK is now over. But the producers have learned their lesson. They needed to find a creature that reproduced so quickly, we couldn't destroy them all in one week.
We all wanted bunny rabbit week.
We got COCKROACH WEEK. The tshirt puns made the difference, just like SOUTH CAROLINA.:shhh:
Can someone explain for me what the big thing about Shark Week is in the US? I've always wondered
Because they advertise the chit out of it. I have no idea.
But you have to admit, the Snuffy the Seal commercial is classic
Not mention the have to give the UFO guys a break once in a while. Giorgio Tsoukalos has to get a hair cut.
I have absolutely no why idea why it is a big deal, other than what a previous poster mentioned, they advertise for weeks in advance hyping it up. To my knowledge, I have not watched a single show that is a part of shark week, ever. I just don't get it.
I also have never had a McRib either, so maybe I'm just adverse to ovehryped products.
Several years ago Discovery channel dedicated an entire week to shark oriented content, but it wasn't hyped or anything. It was a relative hit (I watched). Some "national geographic" type shows, some shows on fishing for them, some shows on swimming with them, some shows on the different types and what not.
They saw the spike in ratings and cashed in. Still the same general premise, just WAY over-hyped for what it is.
it is funny
Great commercial. As far as the show goes I have not watched it. I might if I was doing nothing and saw it on. Not that big of deal to me growing up fishing all over Florida. I would not kill a shark knowing what I know these days.
Sharks eating people is way more entertaining than "The Voice" or "SYTYCD".
Exactly. Just like February 14th. And if "a diamond is forever," why the hell would I ever need to buy more than one?
I do like Shark Week, though.
I enjoy the Great White episodes but the others, I can take it or leave it.
Had trouble figuring out what "the first episode was" but did watch some very hokey Megaladon show which was followed by an even more hokey shark talk show (in a studio). Worst opening night of all time. Had the same "jump the shark" thought you did; answer is yes. Show has now gotten away from shark science and ventured into Sharknado territory.
Or Cinco de Mayo. If you need some irrelevant historical event spun into a completely pointless "cultural/social" event to drink crappy Mexican beer at an faux Irish bar, then you are a silly fool.
