what an exciting title game. throughtout the game I couldnt help but think two things ....

    1. thats how you make a running offensive extremely exciting (not that BS champ ball).
    2. how are Auburn and Mizzou that stacked on offensive over the once perennial power house Florida Gators? thats pathetic.

Just remember that Mizzou had a losing season last year. We'll have a senior QB, hard to imagine anywhere near as many injuries, and hopefully an OC that is a better fit. Things could turn around fast - maybe 11 wins!

I really thought Malzahn would not compete for awhile because of having to recruit against Saban. But Auburn usually does have studs. I suppose they are good precisely because they have to recruit against Saban.

Both schools had losing seasons last year. And if UA and Mizz. keep running that offense, we’ll need a Defense as well.

Yes, I can't even imagine what Auburn would have done to our defense with that attack.

He clearly knows how to use talent and I think inherited a bunch.

How long has Malzahn been recruiting at Auburn? Tre Mason is not his recruit. Did Malzahn recruit the 2012 class w/ 9 OL, the 2011 w/ 5 OL, of 2010 class w/ 7 OL? Most were top 30 or better.

He better get on the recruiting trail because his 2014 class is not nearly as good top to bottom as previous three.

No doubt Saban and the rest of the SEC defensive coordinators will be working overtime to slow down that offense.

    2. You recruit player to your system and you do it over a number of years. Mizzou's staff has been there for over 10 years. Malzan has been at Auburn since 2009 you see how that works?

I couldn't help but think one thing:

    Where were the defenses?

A fiesta of whiffs and arm tackles.

You have to do it right though. Being there for years means nothing if you are coaching it wrong. Players won't make up for poor coaching. Just look at Jeff Bowden at FSU. Malzahn made AU's offense elite in just his 2nd season there. In fact, in his first season at AU in 09 the offense improved a lot. It went from 105 ranked offense in 2008 to ranked #15 offense in 2009 which was Gus' first year as OC.

Missouri will be back down to earth next season. They are a senior laden team. Everything is right for them this season. They come in spurts. Their offense has been mediocre ever since Christensen left.

But now that we fired Pease and are changing offensive philosophies I think we are headed in the right direction.

Oh how soon people forget that he "inherited" his players and offensive system after chizik was fired. Those subsequent loaded recruiting classes were a by product of the natty that was won with malzahn as OC and then the 2012 class buzz when it was announced that he will be returning as HC. He's a heck of a coach, but he certainly fell into the perfect situation to be a HC of a major program for first time and have such familiarity of the team already.

Well anymore if your coaching them "wrong" you won't be there long anyways, especially more than 4 years, and Auburn's quicker than usual rise in offensive rank also had a lot to do with that one guy....what's his name? You know that heisman winner.. oh yeah Cam newton, hate him or not but he was worth every penny they spent. :)

Sometimes I wonder if Auburn also benefits from some blowback from that deal that Saban struck with the Devil at some crossroads in Louisiana. Maybe the big guy upstairs throws them some of that crazy luck just to put the Tide in their place every few years.

Auburn was the beneficiary of couple of really lucky breaks. Take those away and they could be a 3 loss team.

He was a good purchase haha

But keep in mind in 2009 Auburn did not have Cam Newton. That was 2010, yet in 2009 which was Malzahn's first season they improved from 105 to the #15 offense
