ESPN's Brent Musburger and Jesse Palmer Signed as Lead SEC Network Announce Team

Sports broadcasting legend Brent Musburger will be joined by college football analyst Jesse Palmer in the booth every Saturday on the SEC Network when it launches next fall. The Hall of Fame sportscaster and the former Florida quarterback have each reached an agreement with ESPN to be the lead college football game commentators on the new network. The pair will kick off the season with Texas A&M at South Carolina on the SEC Network Thursday, Aug. 28.

"Brent Musburger is a cultural icon who has been guiding fans through many of sport's most spectacular moments for decades," said John Wildhack, ESPN Executive Vice President, Programming and Production. "His big-game performance and unmistakable style will elevate our football coverage on the SEC Network. Serving as the definitive play-by-play voice for this major network launch represents an exciting new chapter in his legendary career and reinforces our commitment and investment in the SEC Network."

Wildhack continued, "Jesse Palmer has quickly established himself as one of college football's most insightful, entertaining and dedicated analysts. As a former SEC quarterback, he brings the perfect combination of playing experience and deep conference knowledge to the SEC Network. Partnering him with Brent on this new national platform will create a memorable booth for college football fans everywhere."

This is good news for football fans of other conferences. Imagine how elated we'd all be if Musburger was committed exclusively to ACC games.

I don't think Verne and Gary are going away...?

CBS only gave up it's exclusive 3:30 broadcasting slot...they still have first pick of the prime-time SEC game that week, it just won't always be at 3:30 like it used to be. ESPN will now get to broadcast SEC games in that spot, which is what the OP article is about. If I'm not mistaken Verne and Gary will still be calling the SEC on CBS "big game" every week.

Verne and Gary = good news. Hope we rate well enough to get their coverage on a regular basis.

Mushberger and Palmer = keep the sound off.

"and he snaps one off for a 5 yard gain......"

ugh, i'm not as particular about announcers but I loathe musberger and his cheesy commentary. Only thing as bad would be Pam Ward or the NFL guys on fox doing college football. I pretty much like any and all other announcers college or pro to some degree

    Pam Ward.... rough.

How 'bout her and Spielman teaming up? That would be a slice of mind numbing hell to listen to.

There are some other decent options out there for sure, though. From the ESPN crew, Pollack, Herbie, Fowler and Davis are all pretty good. Blackledge, Nessler, Ware, and I'm sure others I'm not thinking of right now.

I don't mind Jesse, but Musburger is simply awful. I no longer look forward to the SEC Network. Seriously, I really do not.

pretty much how i feel. wish the dinosaur would go away. is he still popular? how do they gauge performancce with announcers? can't be viewership since everyone watches the product regardless. is it just that so much of america either likes him or doesn't care that he keeps getting the prime gig? most people i talk to cannot stand him
