A better example would be polio vaccine, since polio has been eradicated in the US we don't vaccinate children any more for it. The threat of polio does not exist, where the threat of a auto accident still does exist.

Does this mean that now some one will have to prove they are a citizen of the US and they have to have ID to prove who they are to vote?

The threat of Jim Crow like restrictions still exists.

It means the DOJ can't deny preclearance of those laws and keep them from going into effect to start with. They would still be subject to being challenged, either by DOJ or by individuals, though and a preliminary injunction barring them from going into place would be a possible result. And with regard to registration requirements, the opinion from earlier this term finding that Arizona's law impermissibly conflicted with the "motor voter act" clearly still stands.

Really, who is going to pass a "separate but equal" type law today?

There have been hundreds of struck down attempts since 2006.

I find that hard to believe, but assuming you are correct, the operative word was "pass".

It's not hundreds since 2006 that I'm aware of (although what I'm looking at is only Section 5 objections which are necessarily limited to jurisdictions requiring preclearance rather than everything everywhere), but there certainly are still Section 5 objections that are interposed by DOJ to a variety of laws and procedures. Ginsburg made the argument in her dissent that, because Section 5 objections continue to exist in jurisdictions that Section 4 identifies for preclearance, that demonstrates that preclearance for those jurisdictions is still necessary. Make of that argument what you will.

In your mind, Al's mind, Jesse's mind and anyone else on the left who uses it for the crutch it is. Actually, less crutch and more Louisville Slugger. And guys like you love feel of it in your hand.

It's amazing how racist those on the left are. They are completely consumed by focusing on skin color not character. If you don't agree with them... you must be a racists.

If you are white and don't agree with them then you are a hella racists. It's all about skin color with you people. It's all about groups. Never the individual. And there is the difference...

I think you forgot the [irony] [/irony] tag on your post. "Here is a broad statement generalizing an entire group. Why is it always about groups rather than the individual with you people?" can't possibly be unintentional irony.

It's not so much that they're racists, more like political opportunists. Face it, it's a powerful weapon for them. Just look at Fred. He goes to it the way Ryan went to the fastball.

In 2010 65% white 62% black we're registered to vote and 46% w, 43% b actually voted. Off year vote was pretty equal and both were significantly higher than Asian and Hispanic citizens. I will look for 08/12 presidential year rates but in the last off year election I don't see evidence of suppression, apathy certainly as no face voted 50% turnout even. I couldn't find even a small difference in the % with I'd requirement.

Yes, its all about individuals with you, unless its "socialists," "the left," "moochers," "brood-mares" and all the other insults you direct at groups of people you find undesirable. Why, in this very post you are making disparaging remarks about an entire group of people.
