A bit of an irony is that the school where this tragedy occurred was named to honor Marjory Stoneman Douglas, a pacifist, environmentalist and author. She lived to be 108 yrs old. Sad, sad day in south Florida.

Its the left wanting to put all these kids on psych meds. Most of these young shooters they find out down the line were placed on psych meds for attention deficit and mess like that.

If it is not guns at all, are Americans just worse people than anybody else in the developed world? Because we do this order of magnitudes more than any other country does it. Why?

Read the story in daily mail that he was expelled and regarded as a threat to students. A gun nut who was not allowed on campus with a backpack for a reason. And the authorities going through his social media accounts called what they found "disturbing".

There was ample time to have prevented this. And he should not have been allowed to have weapons. The question is why nothing was done about him before this terrible act occurred?

Ask the NRA, and every republican who votes against even increased background checks and such.

You ask why "nothing was done". It is entirely possible, nothing legally could have been done. Short of his parents having him committed against his will to an institution.

What would have prevented him legally from aquiring a firearm if you were drawing up the law?

We also need to spend a lot more money on mental health. Aside from these shooters, I'd bet a good amount of the homeless people I see around here need that too. But we won't because the vast majority of us won't be personally affected by this stuff. We'll feel bad about it, but by next week it'll just be another forgotten story to most everyone. Look at the Las Vegas shooting, that shit was crazy ridiculous, but until something like this happens, most people don't even think about it anymore.

The list of shooters in this type of event is almost universally white or muslim men, with a few exceptions. And both of them "shoot" for different reasons. So what is it that makes white American men want to do it in cases like this? And it is an honest question.

    We have mental health issues.

You can't institutionalize as easily since the Reagan Administration.

Just like in airports, if you close off campuses, they'll start attacking coming in or out.

Take guns away and they'll make bombs.

And we are so worried about reporting whacked behavior. People are reluctant for fear of being called stalker, racist...

He was 18 and removed from school and considered a threat.

No law could have stopped iy.

AR 15 is again the weapon of choice.

How about having to pass a psych test before purchase or having a short waiting period to check for mental issues, etc. We can't even get a law to outlaw bump stocks like the guy in las Vegas used. Its too easy to say nothing could have stopped this.

So your viewpoint is that we have a greater incidence of mental health issues than the rest of the world? Any evidence to back this supposition?

This person was identified as having mental health issues and being dangerous. It is perfectly reasonable to have him black listed from weapons acquisitions and to hold anyone accountable who provides him a firearm. Imo.

Not a terrible question. Although white European men don't do this at the rate that white American men do. So I don't think it is purely racial, although if somebody can come up with a good explanation for why white American males do this at a higher rate than easier access to weaponry here versus other countries, I would be interested in hearing it.

Harder than in any other country? Because if not, perhaps that is not why we are at levels that are well above any comparable country.

    I don't know?

I just think that saying it's guns is not the answer. He was into bombs and wearing a gas mask.

And what if he used a car? Do we regulate cars?

Guns are things. This is about hearts and minds.

Kids in the Middle East strap bombs on themselves.

No one will be held accountable.....not in FL.

Right now, the FL legislature is going to allow CWPs without a complete background check.

It just gets crazier and crazier.
