Will this BB team ever get over the hump? Seems like heading backwards for some reason.
Sounds like another long year probably hovering around the .500 mark.
the rotation is in flux. No idea who might close if needed. Martin and Gushue hitting, and thats about it. Will take some time to get this group organized it appears, and that translates into a year of growing up the hard way.
2-6-0 for FLORIDA (4-3)
5-6-1 for Miami (4-2)
Box from tonight:
I'm not as frustrated by the hitting, I figured that would come along more slowly. I'm really surprised by the defense, base-running, and pitching. But it's still early, and I've got cases of sunshine stored up (ordered in bulk after football season).
The Gators have 11 extra base hits and have allowed 24. Yes, college baseball is not a power game anymore, but you still need to be able to move guys around and drive in runs. The team SLG is not supposed to be lower than the team OBP.
Have we hit a home run yet this season?
Harris should be a quality closer. So many new guys I think there is still a lot to figure out about the staff prior to conference play....lots of quality arms but not a lot of consistency. Somebody had Carmichael as the Friday night starter, he doesn't even appear until deep into game 7 and has still not thrown a strike.
My concerns lie in bad baserunning, inability to hold or throw out runners defensively, and lack of power at the plate. The last item is going to have to come from the young guys I'm afraid.
I'll ask again, why is the assistant coach in charge of hitting instruction still on the staff? How many years do we need to deal with this same theme. And yes there are aberrations, guys who can just hit without instruction, and those who go on to develop (with real instruction) in mlb.
