Watched Sam many, many, nights on Channel 4. He, Tom Wills, Deborah Gianoulis, and George Winterling were a staple in my families home for a long time.

He was willing to take a pay cut of 50% and they let him go anyway? Obviously wasn't wanted anymore.

It is more impressive as to how long he stayed. Sportscasters usually don't get that kind of a gig.

I'm old enough to remember Channel 4's sportscaster Dick Stratton and Virginia Atter, Jax's "first lady of television."

My daughter-in-law comes from a country where they respect age, unlike here, where youth is likened to health because most Americans are incredibly unhealthy largely due to bad diet (processed) and almost complete lack of exercise: phones, cars, escalators, elevators rather than feet or bikes.

However, it is necessary to make places for the young, otherwise they die of starvation, which is exactly why immortality is frowned upon by the Gods. This is why the mandatory retirement age in China is 50 years of age.

Was it the salary or the exorbitant cost of his toupees?

Same here. Moved away from Jax to the gulf pretty young...but my family all was mostly there. I remember him on our TV and then theirs through the years.
