Thanks for the reply Ben. The social work is not conditioned on evangelism, it is evangelism.

As for the other comments (well stated) it appears what you have a problem is they walk the talk and you don't like the talk (100% biblical).

And it is unassailable that those organizations are completely agenda-driven, and with all deliberate speed, advancing their narrow agendas every chance they get.

I have no doubt you would not. My comment was really a snipe that the SA being "one of your charities" is probably a reference to dropping a couple of bucks in the bucket leaving Publix or Wal-Mart a few times during Christmas season (I could be wrong but I like my odds).

Actually, little buddy, I like you. I'm sure outside of this cyberspace you are a good guy, not good enough to get into Heaven, but a good guy none the less.:)

Ben, concerning your comment about not liking "their positions on using the legal system to make alcohol and drugs less widely available" I suggest you check out a SA as they mentor millions whose lives have been utterly destroyed by drugs and alcohol. BTW, it's the primary cause for 80-90% of the homeless.

Thou shalt not judge. ;) You should know that one. You're not Yogi and I'm not Boo Boo. Do try to refrain yourself from your condescending comment of calling people little. It's not very becoming of you.

:)More a comment that I (like Bill) am large (working on smaller). Was not trying to be condescending in any way. So, if there is a Heaven....ya good enough?

Thou shalt not judge? A verse I struggled with... early.

Question Chomp. If I'm your best buddy...you're cheating on your wife/girlfriend (assuming you have one); you're stealing from your employer....can I call you on it?

What's that have to do with saying that I'm going to hell?

You have got to be the only person in my life I've heard that dislikes the Salvation Army.

Didn't say you were. Asked if there is a Heaven/Hell and God judges you are you good enough for Heaven? Direct question. Answer?

All three are 100% purified agenda based organizations.

It seems that you really have know idea what you said, this is what you said, so here is a copy and paste: Actually, little buddy, I like you. I'm sure outside of this cyberspace you are a good guy, not good enough to get into Heaven...

In answering your question above, if there is a God in heaven, God will be the judge whether I get in, and thankfully not you.

He's not. I ring the bell for them during the holidays. I've had more than a couple of discussions in which people told me things similar to what Ben is saying.

I do it because I think they are mostly good, although some of the things Ben mentions warrant consideration. Oh, and my mom is big time into them and it makes her happy when I do it. I like to make mom happy.

Interesting fact: I am decidedly non-religious (as opposed to anti-religious.)

I lived in a pretty blue state my whole life and just have never heard anyone disrespect the Salvation Army.

What do you think the answer will be? And why? I realize I'm putting you on the spot.
Answer? Inquiring minds want to know.

BTW, Chomp, I was an avid agnostic for 44 years (so I emphasize with you).

So be it. Ignorance is not a defense. See ya. Others here care about you also. You can ignore them too.

As is the Salvation Army. Only they call it a "mission." Religious version of "agenda." Doesn't mean they don't all do good things. Eye of the beholder thing.

I donate far more than most people to the SA, because I volunteer at a thrift shop, and what we can't use, we send their way. Every day. What they can't use, they load into a semi and make millions in the after-market business.

Again, before tonight I have never heard individuals frown on the Salvation Army. Not sure what the agenda is here but I guess it's something oddly personal.
