this will not end well for Belarus. It never does when you challenge Putin. 0 vs Putin is almost humorous.

Serious diplomatic row blowing up after President of Belarus ordered executive from Russian potash company arrested and charged after their meeting went south.

Bet you didn't know there was a potash cartel that effectively controlled world market prices for potash. Neither did I.

Potash is critical to world food supply. drive up the price of potash drive up the price of food. this is good ol fashioned arm twisting where Russia loaned Belarus money on condition that Belarus will privatize their potash industry to repay loan.

Problem is that potash is a major income source for the gubmnt of Belarus so if they privatize it they lose their cash cow. Russia broke cartel to flood marekt to drive price down so they could privatize the resource at a discounted price.

Of course, Russian oligarchs are only bidders and Putin has already decided the price and which oligarch is going to get it. Then Russia will have the potash cartel back in place and can afford to reduce production to drive up price.

It's an old school Russian strong-arm tactic for a takeover. You can sell it as long as it's sold to one of my (Putin's) mobsters.
