So we are hearing Kiffen, Helton and Applewhite.

I think all three are excellent candidates.
Right now, I give the lead to Helton.
My only issue with Kiff is he will be looking for a new HC gig or a position in the league.
The Applewhite situation is intriguing because no one really knows if Brown will step down.
Helton may not want to wait to see if he is being retained by a new coach and be ready for immediate hire, which is why I give Helton the lead.

Even if Brown steps down, Fisher may want to keep Applewhite anyway.

Az, makes a great point when thinking about hiring a coach. He said that you have to look at both the candidate's floor, as well as, their ceiling. I think that if Kiffen were to come here, he would have an incredibly high ceiling simply because of his recruiting abilities. With the pressure of being the head coach not there, I don't think he would be that big of a problem. So what if he leaves in a couple of years...if he can stockpile offensive talent for the next guy, then all is forgiven. Just my .02.

Aren't his recruiting abilities possibly a little tainted now, I wonder. There was a lot of bad stuff out there in social media after UT. Any good side of Kiffen hasn't been well represented in the press. When he was at UT didn't he upset some of the South Florida high school coaches - I might be thinking of someone else though. He certainly didn't help get kids from South Carolina with the 'pumping gas' comment.

There is money and then there is Texas money.
    Brown is a FSU grad.
    He picked Texas.
    So will Jimbo.

I don’t disagree. My comment was in regards to Jimbo and his weak sched. It won’t get him far at FSU from here on out.

Plus he has to compete for recruits against Florida, Georgia, Alabama and Auburn, not to mention OSU with Meyers contacts here.

Who are the rivals to Texas in the recruiting wars?

In this business you strike when the coals are hot.

Jimbo is hot right now, he may never get to this place again.

I don't think Fisher is going anywhere. If we hire Applewhite as OC, we are in deep trouble. I don't understand why Muschamp can't look at the NCAA team offense stats and cherry pick some OCs at small schools with great offenses as candidates. Why do we have to immediately go to someone we already know.

I'd take Applewhite under the right scenario:

    - Applewhite is out of a job at UTx
    - Applewhite lost his job because Brown is out
    - Brown is out because Jimbo is in
    - Jimbo is in because Winston is out
    - FSU is out / or losses MNC w/o JW
    - UF has more NCs than FSU
    - All is right w/ the world

Please....No Kiffen or Applewhite for that matter.
I would like to see us take a chance and do some research, watch some game film and focus on getting a rising star that can come in and change the landscape and energize the players....get them before they take off on the radar and someone else grabs them...My choices for a long, hard look:

Kenny Edenfield (his offenses have ranked in the top 30 nationally 5 of the pasts 6 seasons, In 2012 his offense shredded a pair of SEC defenses in Tennessee for 721 yards and Mississippi State for 572 yards.)
Dave Schramm (great success at Fresno State, Utah and San Diego State. Has coached all offensive positions and has been recruiting coordinator for 15 seasons, he transitioned Fresno State who had traditionally used a pro-style offense into an up-tempo spread system designed to get the ball into the hands of the teams playmakers in space.
Sterlin Gilbert (Eastern Illinois, played Northern Illinois close. Teams avg. nearly 600 yds a game and over 7000 yds in a season, Texas High School background as well like several successful offensive minds. Not a huge resume, but call this one a hunch, the guy can coach)
Mike Norvell - runs a high octane balanced offense that was held under 400 yds just once this season at Utah while averaging 473.2 yds a game and 43.2 points a game. Has been successful at Pitt and Tulsa as well.

Jimbo Fisher would announce leaving FSU before the national championship game? Doubt it.

Texas would freeze their coaching hire until after the NC game? Doubt it.

This is what I am saying as well. There are better candidates out there than Applewhite....nothing against him but we need to be in Atlanta next year if Muschamp wants to hang around.

Coach Choate is the "Special Teams Coach" so the kickers and punters "report" through him... IMO, he has for the most part, done a good job coaching the kick off, kick return, punt, and punt return "teams." However, just like DJ Durkin, he's not a coach who is going to assist a struggling k/p with anything "technical" in their mechanics. I hope that clears up any confusion.

    1. A&M
    2. OU
    3. Arkansas
    4. LSU
    5. Alabama
    6. OSU

Feel free to add more. I think the CA schools dip into Texas as well.

Not really any better in that respect (you also seem to forget he can go to Alabama, Miss, Louisiana, Ga, etc. and recruit too) other than he'll be at the UF of Texas instead of A&M.

I understand that to be what you meant. They do drills with him, they look at film with him, they report to him, but they get technical instruction from outside coaches.
