He designs offense so QB doesn't get touched and knows protection schemes inside/out. He will be what JD/oline needs to succeed. I'm willing to bet he will get full reign w/ O and also pick the oline coach. WM made mistakes but this hire will be what saves his & JF's job.

This will be a Auburn/Missouri type turnaround.

Hopefully. I think a stellar offensive line is the only thing that will do it. Everything else is in good shape.

I hope you are right. It could be a good combination if the HC will let the OC handle his business.

I hope this hire can save the football team, not just WM 's job. That said, Roper seems to be a great hire until you look up his record in the ACC. Duke is 6th in the ACC in points per game and 6th in total yards. I don't know how that will translate into SEC success. Go gators!!!

Seriously? A healthy full roster will do the trick. I think roper succeeds but not because he makes chicken salad out of chicken dung.

If the combination of Driskel having more time combines with his ability to see things more quickly, he could be very successful.

A lot will depend on the team staying healthy, the OL improving and of course if wm can keep from micromanaging his assistants. If wm keeps his fingers on the O then although we may win a few more games the team will be forever hindered.

Roper's chief job is turning the QB position into one that attacks defenses, not just one that is charged with handing the ball to a running back and avoiding turnovers.

Job 1-A is finding a way to make this OL competent, average. I'm not holding my breath about good or great, I would just like to see that unit no longer be a liability.

    Anything beyond that is gravy.

While ranking last in talent. Conversely, Helton had the top or close to the top talent at USC and they were ranked 10 out of 12 teams in offense. Yet we were all over him

So far, I've seen no indication that we're going to be running Roper's offensive system and scheme at Duke. New OC? O.k., but let him scrap this entire mess we've been running the last two years and install all new offense, schemes, and playbooks... the whole nine yards. (Oops! I guess that might be too negative a post perhaps? ) ;););)

We've tried tweeking this offense into being better under Pease the last two years, and we saw how badly it turned out last year with the HBC basically handcuffing the OC. If Foley and Muschamp are going to be so adamant about a new OC solving the problems we have, then lets just start with an entirely new slate on offense.

Also, our OL coach hire is a critical decision too. We've suffered greatly with poor OL coaches the last few years and we really need to hit this hire out of the park.

lol at the idea of Foley needing anyone to save his job. You are not grounded in reality

No. A healthy 8-win team next year is what saves WM, unfortunately. Offense doesn't matter. He'll probably coach here the next 3 seasons.

I am just hoping Muschamp leaves him alone and let's him do his job. I think Muschamp has realized that his job depends on the success of the offense.

Mr. Roper will succeed if he hires Mr. Furley as the OL coach.
