Some people's definition of racism would actually deem everyone a racist.
of course, but, it doesn't prevent them from being destroyed.
so, they are forced to resign, are fired, etc, etc, etc.
but, they are still well liked by those who like them.
ted kennedy stays in office until he dies.
trent lott's political career ended at a birthday party for strom thurmond. robert byrd was actually a member of the kkk. he served in office until he died.
that's usually why people get ticked off about the "injustice". it follows a pattern.
Anyone can be "destroyed" by what they say or do. Are there sometimes different standards? Sure. Baldwin or say, Rush Limbaugh still have to have people hire them for work. If Baldwin says or does things that piss off the people that hire him or reflect poorly on their brand, he's going to find himself without work. Just like Limbaugh would. Do Baldwin's liberal politics cause him to be perceived as more "tolerant?" Maybe. But liberals in general are perceived as more "tolerant." I dont think its just because liberals have defined conservatives as "intolerant." At some point there are real actions, policies and deeds that have informed these notions (rightly or wrongly). So, depending on how you define yourself politically, you will probably take advantage. Conservatives get viewed as "tougher," more "pious" and maybe "better with money" - and when those qualities are desired, people take advantage of perception in that regard too.
FYI, Trent Lott's politcal career ended in 2007 when he became a lobbyist, not 2002 at Strom Thurmond's Birthday party. I mean, he was reelected in 2006 and probably could have kept going.
It is possible to use words that are derogatory at some point in the past but not have a general derogatory view of that particular group of people. We should call out folks in the public domain for their action. Not hot brand them as racist, homophobes, etc.
I tend to look at context and patterns before jumping to general conclusions. But that's just me.
Well everyone but them. It's the new version of you're going to hell. It's sanctimonious bullshit for the most part now.
Kind of a "when did you stop beating your wife" type question.
Even them! I get what you're saying though, they would hold everyone to their ridiculous standard, but wouldn't live up to it themselves...
Maybe Jesse Jackson could be redeemed after all of his racist comments.
Hey, I'm back to liking this Baldwin guy:
Alec Baldwin is going to get his a$$ kicked one day. He likes to get mouthy with people and has been known to have some anger issues. Maybe I will get the opportunity to run into him one day. They do a lot filming here in Wilmington and the lib stars like to frequent the bars downtown.
But his comments, as MJW pointed out earlier, seem to be much more politically incorrect that Ms. Deen's are/were, in this PC day and time.
What gives ? What's in your wallet ?
Because deep down (as we all know) its really not about racism or homophobia. It's about collecting votes to stay in power.
The bigger question is can Jessie be redeemed.
