Good for him. Seems like a good guy and I live in Tampa so when Gators aren't playing I may be able to hop in the sun dome and actually watch okay basketball now for 5 bucks :p

It's a pretty easy recruiting pitch... go to a commuter school with no success in sports or come to the flagship university with one of the best coaches in basketball.

I find his persona very annoying, but seems like a solid coach.

I think we will be fighting him over in state recruits. He's a very aggressive coach

Two things jumped out of that article for me. First, USF paid a firm $60K to find a coach? Wow. And two, this guy had 60 wins in 3 years at Manhattan, and 25 came this year. Not exactly a strong track record; must've really wow'd that searching firm.

I'm surprised a mid-major coach in demand (if this guy is) isn't holding out for something better. I agree with the earlier comment that USF isn't a phenomenal place for basketball coaches.

Cool, maybe this will help UF schedule some games against USF.

In Tampa and having watched Seth and Stan relegated to the cellar, none of them had what I would call "fire in the belly". This coach appears to have it. From what I've read and seen is a very good and aggressive recruiter. I think that is why he was hired. Besides Florida he has the connections in New York which is a good recruiting area. Judging how Manhatten played Louisville he knows his X's and O's pretty well. Remember Pitino was instrumental in Billy's hire here some 18 years ago.

With the publicity the program is getting, any of our coaches could be moving on to head coaching gig or a promotion with better pay

I couldn't possibly disagree more. IF, and that's a big IF, Masiello has success there...he will be poached by a bigger, better program well before he gets a chance to compete with UF for recruits. Tell me, are FSU, UCF, and UM better basketball programs than USF? (Answer: YES) When was the last time any of those programs took a recruit that UF really wanted? (Answer: Never) The guys who go to these programs are guys that UF passes over because they aren't good enough to compete at our program's level. USF is no different. You have no cause to worry, at all. If Masiello is for real, USF will be a stepping stone, nothing more.
