I've been really surprised that this show isn't pulling any punches in an attempt to woo the conservative crowd. From the first episode they went straight at the idea that religious explanation of the world doesn't trump science, and then doubled down in the next episode. Predictably some conservatives are very upset the science doesn't nicely match up with the bible.

...also, I get a kick out of the idea that this show and Fox News are owned by the same company. If that doesn't clue people in as to the main motivation of the Fox Entertainment parent company, nothing will.

Science Deniers Are Freaking Out About "Cosmos"

If you think the first episode of the new Fox Cosmos series was controversial (with its relatively minor mentions of climate change, evolution, and the Big Bang), Sunday night's show threw down the gauntlet. Pretty much the entire episode was devoted to the topic of evolution, and the vast profusion of evidence (especially genetic evidence) showing that it is indeed the explanation behind all life on Earth. At one point, host Neil deGrasse Tyson stated it as plainly as you possibly can: "The theory of evolution, like the theory of gravity, is a scientific fact." (You can watch the full episode here.)

Not surprisingly, those who deny the theory of evolution were not happy with this. Indeed, the science denial crowd hasn't been happy with Cosmos in general.

Politics is the new religion... And science is the new proving grounds in which to pontificate this misplaced point of view that one side seems to be hijacking for their own political gain.

I think you're confused about evolution VS. evolution to explain away the absence of god.....but carry on

Perhaps not the comparison he really meant to make, ya know, with recent discoveries and all.

Thank God for the philosophy of science keeping an eye on the scientists. Problem is the former doesn't get any play. I think only seventeen people other than myself know about the discipline.

Which side is hijacking it for its own political gain?

Would that be the side making shows like Cosmos?
Or the side making websites like http://www.evolutionnews.org/?

Scientists and AGW are what I was implying. And to the Leftist's these AGW scientists are their 'money/taxes/revenue/extortion gods' from heaven.

I really wonder if we are moving backward, where the number of people who prefer faith over science is actually increasing.

No see, here is your problem, you think you can pretend to use science to explain a lack of a higher power. You can't, really. Einstein knew that full well.
