Interesting perspective in this article that Harris may be more physically ready to play than Grier, despite Will being an EE.

Grier does need to put on some weight and he has said he would prefer to redshirt, but given Driskel's history of injury, I have to think that they are at least going to try to get Grier prepared with significant reps in the Spring.

Given this, I wonder if Harris won't have too much to learn to expect the young man to contribute in the Fall

I think we would be better suited not to redshirt either this season. Driskel is injury prone, and running a spread option means he will probably take more hits (albeit not hard sacks where he is standing still and the guy is running full speed). That said, I think both QBs would benefit greatly from playing time this year, especially with our schedule. Getting them acclimated to taking snaps in the "big games" would be great experience for both.

I expect that both are going to be slated for RS...unless there is are injuries to the current QBs and then the one who can hold up the best will be pulled.

You can always pull the redshirt if needed - see Johnny Townsend. At 5' 11" and 180, maybe Treon Harris can pick up the hook slide from Chris Leak.

Two other things that come into play.

Will Driskel get a medical redshirt year and would the expectation be that he starts the next two years? Will Skyler stick around as a best case scenario this coming year or will he transfer as many have rumored?

Yes, Driskel is a redshirt Junior.

I don't see how Skyler's chances are any better elsewhere. He's got a new OC who has maximized the production of under-the-radar QBs in the past.

I say let them get as many reps as possible and use them as needed.

I see Treon getting on the field first.

As long as one doesn't transfer and take Auburn to the NC game, I'm good

I think Grier needs to red-shirt, IMHO. Harris needs to be the guy that spells the second stringer, not Driskel, unless Driskel gets hurt. Then I think Harris gets thrown in as the starter and Skyler backs him up, because we cannot afford to throwaway another year/season.

Hopefully they both redshirt. Grier is worth the risk of redshirting- it's great to build the experience without the added pressure. Unless Driskel gets hurt then no holds barred

Another reason a redshirt might make more sense for Grier is it's a much larger step up from low level North Carolina football than it is from high level South Florida football.

I think it's entirely possible that neither of them redshirt. Roper is likely to want to use two QBs if Duke was an indication, so at least one of them will probably be playing. I suspect it might be Harris, but I'm sure Roper will let them figure it out competing on the field. If there is any injury, they'll both probably get time on the field.

I hate to compare either of our true freshman qbs to Tim Tebow, who I believe was an EE, but irrespective, his package was very limited as a true freshman behind Leak.

Is it realistic to believe that Harris could pick up enough enrolling in the fall. We saw how Brissett was without Spring ball

Spring ball is overrated. You saw how our entire offense looked this year. That was with the advantage of "Spring ball".

I think Harris is going to play as the back up QB right away because of his mobility. I think he will primarily run the ball and not throw it too much. Just IMO.

I think we're running this offense with two QB's in mind (probably 85%/15%). So Jeff takes 85% of snaps, and Harris takes the other 15%. When we run often, we need to take the load off of our starter. Jeff can't take 10 hits per game, every game. Harris could also fake the read option and throw, to break up the routine a bit. I just can't see us putting all of the weight on Jeff. Mornhinweg can't really run as well, so I figure he wouldn't get in as much

I'm glad we have the talent to have conversations about this. I think Harris has faced stronger competition.

    Great problem to have!!

They will not both RS. Who do you expect to back up JD?
