Agree, a knifes blade has two sides
Throw out the Toledo game for pete's sake.
Gators scored 17 in the first half. I had to leave for a granddaughter's soccer game and went straight to the DVR when I returned to see if they hit 50 against a worn down defense. I was shocked. So, they obviously sat on the 2nd half--epitomized by taking a knee at the end.
i really don't think mack brown is quite as good as everything thinks. not very quick. doesn't have big play ability. he is a good serviceable back. i know many people here are not too high on matt jones, but once he is healthy, i expect more of what we saw against FSU last year. a guy that can run downhill but also has enough breakaway speed to make a game changing play. don't see that in mack brown
Why would a coaching staff, who ALL acknowledge that the offense needs work, take a knee against a weak team? This would have been the opportunity to see what the team has. How many snaps did the backup QB take?
In the 3d quarter, we had three punts. Here were the 10 plays:
1st and 10 at FLA 25 Mack Brown rush for 6 yards to the Fla 31. 3 17
2nd and 4 at FLA 31 Mack Brown rush for 1 yard to the Fla 32.
3rd and 3 at FLA 32 Jeff Driskel pass incomplete to Trey Burton.
1st and 10 at FLA 31 Jeff Driskel pass incomplete to Demarcus Robinson. 6 17
2nd and 10 at FLA 31 Mack Brown rush for a loss of 1 yard to the Fla 30.
3rd and 11 at FLA 30 Jeff Driskel pass complete to Trey Burton for 10 yards to the Fla 40.
1st and 10 at FLA 43 Jeff Driskel rush for 10 yards to the Toled 47 for a 1ST down. 6 17
1st and 10 at TOL 47 Jeff Driskel pass incomplete to Solomon Patton.
2nd and 10 at TOL 47 Valdez Showers rush for 2 yards to the Toled 45.
3rd and 8 at TOL 45 Jeff Driskel sacked by Jayrone Elliott for a loss of 5 yards, fumbled, forced by Jayrone Elliott, recovered by Fla Ian Silberman at the 50 yard line.
Driskel passed four times, completing one. Only two rushes were for greater than 2 yards.
Our next two drives were on relatively short drives. We had six passes and six rushes. Only on the last drive, when we drove the ball 81 yards, did we predominantly run the ball, passing the ball only once in 11 plays.
We weren't "sitting" on anything. We simply couldn't move the ball.
I think Brown is a good hard running back. Will probably be very effective at times when we wear down defenses.
I agree that Jones should be very good when he gets back fully healthy and gets his timing down.
I really like Herndon and KT... both seem to have the vision and feet to make people miss in the hole, or bounce it outside when needed. Hopefully they come along and get the protections and ball security down. Showers is definitely adding to the mix getting to the edge too.
i think guys like KT and valdez are also game changers, i understand the KT has to work his way up the depth chart, so the verdict is still out on him. but iv seen enough to be optimistic when it comes to showers, i think he should get mack browns reps, but that is just me.
The promising sign is that Will Muschamp says this team is filled with high character guys that are confident despite the loss.
Why would we throw it out when it epitomizes the Muschamp brand of football? Namely: Get a lead, go into our shell and run the ball unless absolutely forced to do otherwise, hang on to win due to defense.
He might have meant the last drive of the game, where we could have scored another TD if we wanted to.
Will basically let the clock expire. I'm sure he didn't want to run up the score, although I don't see what the difference between 24-6 and 31-6 is.
It's not like he was taking a time out to kick a field goal.
We won big like that in the mid-1980s. We kill opponents the same way a Gator does: Whip them with our tail, clamp them between our jawa, and drag them to the bottom until they drown. Then swallow...
That is the state of football in the SEC in the 21st Century. The only exception appears to be Texas A&M, Georgia and Auburn.
If O-line stays healthy I think we win the East.
