Thought I'd share. Can't do link on my phone but they broke it here about 30 min ago. He was 95. Stadium in midst of renovations, so let's see if the team still stays.

Honestly had no idea who that was, might not be apparent to non-Buffalo residents.

AFC East fans know who he was. The stadium has been named after him for years as well.
Legendary figure that was key in the NFL/AFL merger.

When I'm that age i certainly won't be Ralph wilson rich but i guarantee I'm going to be one ornery old geezer. I'm a smart ass now I can't imagine what I'll be like when I'm 90. Look out retirement homes. :)

Well he's in the Hall of Fame, and was instrumental in the merger into the NFL. The somewhat interesting bit is that allegedly his kids don't like the area & want to move the team. Jim Kelly was heading a group a few years ago to buy the team from Wilson's family to keep it in Buffalo, but that got sidetracked by Kelly's first bout of cancer (which is apparently back). Huge up here because if the Bills go....well you can imagine what it'll do to this area.

    Just thought it was interesting.

It would be like if the Packers left green bay. The bills are buffalo......... well I suppose there's always the sabres games..... Nah! Hockey can't hold a match to football. There is no replacement for the pigskin. That's probably why I find my self more interested in our spring practice than any basketball right now. And "we're talking about practice, not a game but practice". Last season left a bad taste in my mouth and am ready to put it behind me. :)

Wilson's kids have repeated said they have no interest in running the team and will sell it once everything is said and done. I know there was some talk of Jim Kelly getting a group of investors together to buy the team but I don't know how that is going with his cancer coming back.

The Bills also have a pretty solid lease with the city, but there is a one year clause (2018?) that the team can buyout the lease for just $28 million. So is Roski or anyone else bought the team with the intention of moving to LA, the Bills are still tied to Buffalo for the next few years.

If the Bills do move, I wouldn't mind the NFL moving Jacksonville to the AFC East.

There were fans trying to schedule a memorial tailgate but the stadium folks have asked fans not to due to construction.

As for Kelly, they just cancelled his surgery because the cancer is in a location (I guess from what his wife is saying) that they can't operate and get it, so they'll do chemo and radiation and hope for the best. I don't think he'd be in any shape to lead any group to try to keep the Bills here. They discussed the contract thing in the news, so yeah they're locked in for a couple of years; however, I don't think that would preclude Wilson's heirs from entering discussions since all that takes time.

Ralph Wilson was one of the pioneers of professional football in the 1950's. He didn't buy the Bills, he created the team and helped create the AFL because the NFL owners didn't want any "outsiders" crashing their elite club. He was also a key figure in getting the AFL-NFL merger accomplished, which was the first step in making football the king of professional sports in America.

Wilson always said that the Bills would never be sold and would never leave Buffalo AS LONG AS HE WAS ALIVE. I heard on the radio that he also insisted the team be sold after his death, because he knew his kids had no interest, aptitude or ability in running the franchise. I always thought Jacksonville was most likely to would lose the Jags to Los Angeles, but now the Bills may become the front runner in that race.

    ^^
Wilson's children have stated repeatedly they plan to sell the team after their father died. The Bills lease with the city of Buffalo is pretty airtight except for a window following the 2019 season, when the owner can buyout the lease for $20 million.

Granted keeping the team in Buffalo until the last minute means the team wouldn't have to share the Coliseum or Rose Bowl while a new stadium is built.
